Today, I let a friend borrow a power saw. When I found it on my porch later, the blade was missing and the cord was cut. Looking closer, I realized it was his saw. He kept my new one. He totally denies that he switched them and now won't answer his door. FML

Today, I got my laptop back after lending it to my friend. It wouldn't boot, and after investigating I found out it'd been stripped of its hard drive and all its memory. When I confronted my "friend", he accused me of lying and trying to ruin his reputation. FML

Today, my neighbor came over to borrow my lawnmower. As I have previously loaned it to him and he returned it broken, I refused. He then promptly ate the strawberries off my daughter's small strawberry plant and stormed off. FML

Today, I came home to find that my roommate had picked my lock and stolen my new laptop. When I tried to take it back, he called the police. They sided with him since he had also taken the receipt, which was "proof" that it was his. FML

Today, my "friend" came over. I caught him trying to steal my iPod on the way out. Proud of myself for catching him, I asked him to leave, only to realize that I had forgotten to actually take the iPod back from him before he left. FML

Today, my brother "borrowed" my car and keys without asking me. He came back 4 hours later, alone and pale faced. It took half an hour of questions, interrogation, and finally threats before he admitted that my car is sitting in a ditch a few miles away, probably totaled. FML

Today, I met my neighbor. When she saw me cutting down trees on my lot, she interrogated me and called the police because she didn't believe I owned the property. She didn't call the cops when she watched someone steal a cord of wood from my property two days ago. FML

Today, I was helping a friend move. Before we arrived, he put his key on my key ring to keep it safe. When we got there, he promptly shoved my front door key into the lock and snapped it clean off. Not only can we not get into his house, but now I can't get back into mine. FML

Today, I was walking to the store when I ran into one of my friends. He said he heard about my bike being stolen the day before, and that whoever took it was a heartless dick. I hadn't told anyone about the theft. FML

Makes no difference if he switched them, you loaned your friend a good working saw he has to return a good working saw. As a last resort you could try to involve the police for theft but I would first try peer pressure and involve his parents

When it comes to letting someone borrow one of my things, the only person I'd trust are my own parents, partly because I live in the same house with them. There seems to be a curse on the act of loaning objects. The person repeatedly forgets to return it. (A coverup for stealing it, perhaps?)

Even if it was your saw he should still have to replace it after doing that. Call the cops and force them to get your saw back. If that doesn't work, force into his house and get your saw back. Either way, NEVER allow him to borrow something of yours ever again.

That was not a friend! On a related note - Never loan or borrow tools or anything valuable. In the long run that saves a lot of trouble.

Go with what number 1 said! He has to return in working order. If you have receipt or warranty you will show a different serial number. Which means theft on his part, ticket, return of your property, and comp for wasting your time w deformation of character.
