Today, I returned to work after a restful week-long holiday. Before I left, I'd finished a huge assignment which is due this week. I walk in to find a water pipe has burst just above my desk, flooding our office with water and ruining my computer. Happy New Year to me. FML

Back up your work. And if you'd finished it, why didn't you submit it early? You don't exactly deserve it, but by taking basic steps you could have avoided it.

It's possible the Hard-drive is still salvageable, depending on where the water went. Unless the whole things screwed, see if you can get the IT guy to retrieve the Hard-drive.

Flash drives aren't $30 for 64MB anymore... technology buddy

Yeah you should be able to salvage your hard drive as said above, unless its completely smashed to pieces you can almost always retrieve information from it.

18, r u a kid?!? u look like ur 8 years old

15-20% of FMLs could be avoided if people backed up important data

At least now you have a swimming pool? Grab your secretary and go skinny dipping since you're already screwed!

Idk about you, but at the places Ive worked, the towers are always off the ground :/ Sucks for you, though. As many people have said, though, the hard drive should be salvageable. Next time, save it on a flash drive when you finish as a CYA!
