Today, I got my two-year-old's Halloween costume in the mail. I tried it on him to make sure it fit. He loves it so much that he is now having a complete meltdown because he wants to go trick-or-treating. He doesn't understand we only go trick-or-treating on Halloween. 23 more days to go. FML

OP here! First off, for all the people inquiring about what the costume is, it is a plush dinosaur that his legs go into and his upper half sticks out of it. You can see a picture of it if you search "dinosaur" at costume express. And the issue isnt that he loves the costume, in fact he hated putting it on at first. The issue is that he wants candy and he wants candy RIGHT NOW. Thanks for all the suggestions. But now that a day has gone by, the costume is in a closet and he seems to have forgotten all about it.

My candy never got past the second day. My father would be passed out on the floor surrounded by candy wrappers

You know that feeling you get when you can be "first" and you think of the greatest line ever? Don't ever listen to it...

Well I thought it was clever. Oh well, they can't all be winners.

you can say he's the cookie monster #1 but in all of us there lives a cookie monster who would gladly inhale candy without even chewing if it was good for us. or if nobody judged us for it.

That's great but I was trying to imply that that's what his costume was.

I stand by what I said to justify my unhealthy longstanding addiction to candy and pies so there.

ikr 15. I've only ever gotten one 'first' comment and all I could think of saying was 'oh my god.'

dude, the kids 2 years old, I doubt he remembers going trick or treating at 1 so I blame OP. OP shouldn't have gone on about it at such lengths for him to have a melt down that he had to wait. Any smart parent knows that's too much of a wait for a little kid. Sure try on the costume for dress up and let the subject wait til closer to Halloween.

But what if it didn't fit? If he waited till Halloween to figure that out, he'd have a little bit of a problem.

@53, let's turn down on this emotional rant here and start using logic. Your criticism of OP here does not make sense and suggests you know nothing about 2 year olds or raising kids. What OP did made logical sense because if you wait until Halloween to try on the costume and it doesn't fit, then there's no Halloween. How would the 2 year old feel then? Think before you start attacking people, please.

Or you could actually read #53 comment and then you would see that he suggested trying the costume on as a "dress up" to see if it fit, and then wait until closer to the date to tell him it's a halloween costume and teach him about trick or treating.

@53 You assume the parents told him all about what the costume is for, but OP may have other children. Older siblings would already be making a big deal out of Halloween and telling their baby bro about wearing costumes and getting candy.

Poor kid just wants candy like the rest of us....

Try a countdown till Halloween (and trick-or-treating) the same way that you can get a countdown calendar of days till Christmas. That might help your son keep track of how much longer until he can use his costume and get really excited when the time comes.

Wow that doesn't sound good, but we've all HAD to of done it as kids.

No, I never did, and neither has my kid. Even I didn't go until I was about 8-9 because I misbehaved one year and my mom took my costume back and didn't let me go. What's ****** up is that I was born in Halloween.

Have him practice trick-or-treating at your house. You can even give him candy. That way you both get what you want.

Yeah mr. Dowan ain't playin these games. I mean who's foolin who?

Aw poor kid. At least you didn't wait until the 29th to get his costume like most parents.

CharresBarkrey 15

Most parents get their kids' costumes 2 days before Halloween?

How is that backsass? It's a legitimate question.

Maybe you can play trick or treat with him a couple times.

Or just let him wear the costume when he wants to. When I was that age I practically lived in my pink fairy costume. Where's the harm?

48- the issue isn't that he wants to wear the costume, it's that he wants to go trick or treating a month early.

Let him wear it and trick or treat at your house, that should suffice until Halloween.

Just wait until bath time unless he's dressed as aquaman
