You never know

Today, I saw my teacher using her phone in the middle of class, so to joke around with her, seeing as we're on pretty good terms, I said: "Using your phone in class? For shame." She looks me in the eyes and says, "Would it be ok if I told you I'm arranging my father's funeral?" FML

I feel so bad for your teacher! what a terrible thing to happen! On that note she should not bring it into the classroom. She should take a few days off to plan and mourn if needed. You were just trying to joke around but now I guess you know! It is just an all a round bad situation.

There is no way you could have known that.

Never try to prove something to a teacher, you will lose. Every. *******. Time.

I think that was really rude for her to respond that way. I can understand her being upset but she didn't have to snap at you because you didn't even know. If she was really that upset she could have just skipped a few days.

Her dad just died... People tend I snap and not think rationally when something like that happens. Teachers included. It doesn't really indicate that she snapped at OP at all though. It's just as likely that she said it calmly.

She was in the middle of planning her dad's funeral.... I'm sorry but were you expecting her to be overcome with joy?

She was also in the middle of teaching a class... Not the time to be planning a funeral. Nor is it the fault of her student who merely jokingly pointed out that she was blatantly doing something she shouldn't be doing. I have every sympathy for her but she should have taken time off if need be, or at least waited until lunch or a free period for her personal errands. It sucks beyond belief having to plan a funeral for a loved one, but that doesn't give her a free pass to do it in the middle of a lesson that she's being paid to teach.

Have you people ever planned a funeral? Sometimes it requires you to to take a call to answer a question or something on the spot... And perhaps she would have rather worked that day and simply taken the occasional phone call rather than miss an entire days work.... Don't be so quick to bring judgement. It's not always so black and white. Teachers are human beings too.

For her snapping like that she clearly isn't in the right state of mind to be teaching and should have taken a couple days off.

To be honest that sounds very similar to the "grandparents died" excuse! Haha. Though fytl, (**** your teachers life), and there's no way you could have known that before hand.

You accidentally pressed the comment button, typed something in the box, and then validated it?

this must be the kind of person who accidentally builds a shelf

Well i typed a comment. And decided i didnt want to post. but my phone is messed up so it posted for some reason

then how did the post become? "I accidentally posted sorry" why not just close the app instead of writing something? So many questions

because after i seen it had posted. i edited it. because that is an option so i said that it was there accedently and that i was sorry

Just for future reference, it's actually spelt "Accidentally" :)

RedPillSucks 31

accedents happen but you correct them and they become accidents.

Just make it a point to offer your sincere condolences (seeing how you guys are close) She is going through a tough time, losing a parent is harsh.

Wow OP that sucks. I hope that that doesn't affect your student-teacher relationship..

Was she really planning her father's funeral or just messing with you?

"My father died.... hahahah. Just kidding" Why the **** would anyone joke about that?

How many people use the dead relative excuse often? Plenty people joke about death

I think you can expect to not do so well in that class anymore, op.

I don't see how that affects your grades...

Why would it affect their grades? The teacher obviously understood the joke but to stop them causing a scene they told them what they were doing. It mightve been true, it might not've been.
