Today, feeling very self-conscious about my looks, I told my mom I felt ugly and wished I could be as beautiful as her. She only said, "Yeah, I'm pretty, I wonder what happened to you." FML

My mom says things like that ALL the time. Seriously, it's just a joke. I can't tell for sure in your situation because, of course, I can't hear the tone she said it in, but usually when parents say stuff like that it's not meant to be taken seriously.

My mother makes jokes like this as well. However, I don't have major self esteem issues and I look just like her but thirty years younger. So it may be a joke in my situation or yours, but crushing in OP's. If nothing else, it's poor taste to make such a joke to someone who has just confessed to a major problem like that.

Hey don't listen to her she's a bad mother ignore her, don't turn to make up, I don't care if I get voted down who cares I'm saying what I think. Wear what you like wear headphones with loud music to ignore everyone look straight not to the sides, you won't see people giving you dirty glances and it works, cause trust me I'm a girl and I have a mans nose and feet..

Did you just expect her to give you sympathy when you put yourself down? I know it sounds cold and everyone wants love, but putting yourself down and hoping people will come to your rescue with words isn't the way to do it
