Today, I overcame my shame, confessed to my therapist that I'm sexually attracted to my mother, and begged her for help. She called me a sick freak and banned me from her sessions. FML

Absolutely file a complaint. but also, you are not a sick freak OP. people cannot.help what they are attracted to. it is what you do that matters. Some people are attracted to animals or children for example but as long as they don't act on it (e.g. watch child **** with actual children/animals in or sexually assault anyone) then I see no problem. I am sure there are loads of people who are attracted to family members. lncest **** is a huge thing. it is important to talk about it because the shame and guilt soinds like it is eating you up and that is not.right, you need to have support. so please find a different, better therapist and talk to them or even write it down if that's easier. you are very very brave OP and any therapist worth their salt will be very happy to support you and will be professional and will have heard and worked with a lot worse than that. most therapists will not be shocked at all. it should be a safe space and I would file a complaint about that therapist. take care OP.

Wow, that's one crappy, unprofessional therapist... Maybe you should file a complaint.

Yep, find out who to file a complaint with, and file it. Not only is that extraordinarily unprofessional, but also highly unethical of her to react in that manner. In fact, I'm tempted to say that between her calling you a "sick freak" to your face, attempting to ban you from her practice without 30 days notice, and mishandling of the matter, that you could have a full blown lawsuit against her. At the very minimum you need to report her and emphasize that her responding to you asking for help by further shaming you could very easily have resulted in you committing suicide or having suffered some sort of mental breakdown. Like others have said, look for another therapist, or find some other support network that won't judge you. Given the size of the internet, it shouldn't be too difficult to find a support group online for people that experience unwanted attraction to family members. It also won't be illegal for you to make a social campaign against her for unethical and immature behavior for a therapist. Or for you to say that she doesn't care about or desire to help patients that ask for help with controlling or eliminating undesirable thoughts and urges.

I have a feeling there’s more going in here than you’re admitting.
