Today, I had debilitating stomach cramps and told my mom, but she said she was too tired to take me to the ER. I had appendicitis. Thanks Mom. FML

You carried Frodo up Mount Doom, I think you’re very capable of getting yourself to the ER..

when I was 8 I went through a period where I'd wet the bed EVERY single night. my dad beat my ass until I had bruises and refused to believe anything was wrong with me. 2 weeks later he finally took me to the ER and found out I had type 1 diabetes. my blood sugar was over 850. (90-175 is normal) no wonder I was pissing the bed huh?!!

Literally reading this while recouping from an appendectomy. Solidarity, OP! Hope your recovery is swift!

Dude, I am so sorry you had to go through that. Please tell me that your father is sitting in a prison cell.

David- that is horrendous!! I'm so sorry you went through that. No one should! I want you to know that I have a little one about that age. He has a terrible time with bed wetting. We have brought it up to his doctor before, but not for a while, because we are always told it'll resolve on its own and the doctor isn't worried. Your post has inspired me to seek answers more aggressively and not take "it's not a big deal" as an answer. There could be medical implications. But no one's even running tests. So thank you for sharing your story. On that note, this brought tears in my eyes. I can't imagine ever being angry at my son for it. It's not his fault. And he's humiliated enough on his own when he wakes up with an accident. It really truly breaks my heart that someone would shame their child and physically abuse them over having accidents. *Hugs* to you, and I'm glad you have your diagnosis.

You know, you could call for an ambulance if your mom won't drive you.

Maybe Uber should start up UberEmergency for people like the OP. I'm sure they could make quite a racket out of the current insurance climate nowadays.

So, she isn’t exactly up for the mother of the year award ‘eh?

How does the seriousness of your medical condition make your mom less tired. Tired is tired!

This sounds exactly like my mom. But she'd say something more like "I don't want to sit in the hospital ALL day and night".

I remember when I had a scheduled shoulder surgery at the VA hospital in Buffalo. My dad said he didn't want to stay with me and would essentially drop me off at the hospital and pick me up. One of the nurses at the ambulatory surgery unit basically read my dad the riot act. He changed his mind and stayed instead. Even as an adult, no person should go to any hospital by themselves. Family support is soothing for most people in this situation.

Is this because your date wouldn't let you eat any meat?
