Ouch...
29 - *its
Nope, because it's shows possession, not just another word for it is. It's in this situation shows the family's possession of the sex slave.
Actually, "its" is an exception that is written without an apostrophe when showing possession. Just saying.
Wait.... theDrifter actually used the contraction for it is, making his original statement grammatically correct. Damn Grammar Nazis.
*****
116 - Actually, its (you know, without an apostrophe) shows possession. "It's" is only a contraction for "it is" or "it has" or "it was." I was referring to the second "it's" in 29's comment because it was used incorrectly, so I don't actually understand why I'm being thumbed down.
Because nobody cares. Your correction made no ones life better and just took up space. Grammar nazis are just spammers.
You should also get a 4-leaf clover for food luck
Mmmm... Yes, for food luck...
Thats embarrassing
Don't be embarrassed, friend. Many people take our food luck for granted.
I'm so used to reading bad spelling. That I skipped right over that said food, instead of good.
" I don't know who you are. I don't know what you want. If you are looking for ransom, I can tell you I don't have money. But what I do have are a very particular set of skills; skills I have acquired over a very long career. Skills that make me a nightmare for people like you. If you let my daughter go now, that'll be the end of it. I will not look for you, I will not pursue you. But if you don't, I will look for you, I will find you, and I will kill you." Me: "food luck."
That's why you should know what the tattoo means first!
This is why I think it's dumb when people get tattoos that are symbols or foreign words just cause they it's "cool."
Comment moderated for rule-breaking.
Show it anywayWell keev just make sure it doesn't actually say 'hot sauce' or some idiocy like that.
I would have it on the back of my hand and triple check at least that its right
If you get it on your forehead you can cosplay a mean Gaara.
Keevarou, It's as if you WANT to place euphemisms in people's minds.
15, there is more than one kanji for "love" (ai/koi) and they are both aren't very pretty (愛、恋). "Dragon" would look cooler (龍), but still isn't exactly worth wasting your skin. In my opinion, tattooing just one character is kinda silly. It is like putting letter "A" on your forehead. It would make much more sense to put a sentence of some sort instead. Another important thing that those kanji are not direct equivalent to their english translation. Yakuza-style colorful tattoos look much cooler (especially on women), but they are too radical for making them permanent (plus you might get into trouble if you ever visit japan). Conclusion - if you want tattoos, use body paint or temporary tattoos and experiment as mach as you want.
15, by the way one of those "love" kanji characters has same pronunciation as "carp". So if you tattoo it onto your skin, it'll be a great source of puns for your japanese acquaintances.
Bishojou senshi ? 美署女 選手 if i'm correct
You know how silly Engrish tshirts and signs in Japan look? That's how silly some people with kanji tattoos look. At least tshirts and signs aren't permanent.
90 what exactly is Engrish?
Actually the sailor moon manga is "Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon " .So it actually means "Beautiful Girl Sailor Moon " Look on the Puella Magica aiki under Akemi Homura and the symbol for beautiful is there, as it is a common symbol in female names in Japan. If you want beautiful Girl soldier, the sailor Moon manga works.
They only look silly if you don't know what you are getting tattooed on your body. I saw a girl with the kanji for Bakame. I asked why she had fool tattooed on her body, she thought it was the kanji for suki. The moral of the story "Know what YOU put on you're body before YOU go, as it is permanent.
86. "Bishoujo" is 美少女 "beautiful small woman". You wrote "bisho onna" ("beautiful someone female" - never seen this one in text. IIRC it is usually "bijin" 美人- "beautiful person") "senshi" is 戦士- "war gentlemen/samurai" and not "team player" (選手 - "senshu"). Another hilarious thing is that bishoujo senshi translates as "beautiful girl warrior" (strictly female), not "beautiful soldier" (i.e. it can be male soldier), so if a male sailor moon fan tattooes this one on his neck, it'll be very hilarious for any person that can read japanese. My advice: don't tattoo kanji unless you're fluent in japanese and can read books without dictionary. There are too many ways to pick wrong word with wrong meaning.
Hehe, I just read about ambien, I got no brain disorders yet I think, but I am on fluoxetine though. And good to see that you're still alive and kicking! And I know that kanji's usually mean different things, and I think the "Love" one Gaara have is pretty, I don't care what other people think as long as I actually like the kanji/Tattoo I want :)
You would be surprised at how many people have incorrectly tattooed words /phrases tattooed ON their bodies. I can read mainly romanj and some kanji ( I can't learn kanji very well as I am legally blind ) and I have walked into tattoo shops, and have seen many misleading tattoos. Most mistakes are words with several meanings ie koi,ai,suki(three words for love) and kanji for shi /shi (death and number4) and Sora (sky and space ) I find that people should research things wh3n they make a life changing decision. On a side note good to see you commenting Keevarou welcome back.
I am back every now and then, and I see you know your stuff, kinda jealous for that. And Ty though, and people should ways do research for stuff before doing it. No matter what it is. Just a golden rule. Koi.. Koi sounds familiar, is it a fish or something?
Not only that, but every Japanese character has a specific stroke-direction. So even if the meaning ends up being correct, you still might end up with a sloppily-drawn tattoo that looks completely wrong to anyone who has even a basic knowledge of Japanese.
Keevaroo - I know it's kind of weird, but I was thinking just this morning how long it's been seen I've seen you on FML. Welcome back. :)
She thought she had 'like' tattooed on her body? Why would anyone want 'like' tattooed? Either way its dumb.
That'll be 美少女戦士... What you wrote translates roughly into "beautiful convicted woman player".
Lol yep, that's why I'm ashamed to bring my 500 yen ($5) shirts whenever I travel. >_< THE ENGRISH IS TERIBURU
Lol I hope you realise just how many people have terribly wrong kanji characters tatted but claim that it's correct when they know so little about the language. Heck I even saw a guy with 便所 tatted in his arm. It means "bathroom". He claimed it meant "suave". To make matters worse, even the kanji for 便所 was tattooed wrong. Almost fell over laughing when I got home. Now that I think of it, I probably shouldn't have laughed at his misfortune, but I'd say he deserved it.
Who would know *that* would have been the original meaning though?
I watched a show where they asked Japanese people if they knew what their English t-shirts meant. One had shoplift, the other had fugly . Never understood why people get things they don't know to wear/put on their skin.
Exactly! My Irish friend got a four leaf clover on her shoulder and it looks like a stick on tattoo. After it started to fade, she realized the guy also put a white line around the outside of it. So when people see it, they either cry to peel it off or ask her why she has a fake tattoo along with all of her 10 other real ones.
Omgosh! Half asleep here but that's no excuse. It should say, "After it started TO fade," and the word "cry" should be "try." I wish FML would let Android users edit their comments.

You never found this out during all your research?
You think it would have come up before, especially if OPs family knew about it!
6 - OP said she "put a lot of thought into it." Apparently, her thoughts did not extend to actual research.
Doesn't say she researched it, just she thought about it..maybe whether to get the tattoo or not?
This reminds me of a 1000 Ways To Die episode where this biker dude wants to get a tattoo of a word in Chinese, but the artist actually puts the Chinese word "douchebag" on him.
Didn't that episode also involve a guy with a "chainus" piercing? I shudder even thinking about it.
Time for a cover-up! Shouldn't be a problem
It's going to cost more money but if you really want a tattoo you can always get a better tattoo done over it of use makeup to cover it up all the time. You said you thought it over but I don't think you really did if you found out it means "sex slave."
Paging Dr. Tattoff
Like anal females sex slave! ;)
Laser removal is an option.
Or a cover-up works too.
It shouldn't be too bad, the other meaning of the Celtic tattoo will be lost on the vast majority of the people that see it.
But... Removing a tattoo hurts more than getting one, so either way... It sucks. :( sorry OP.
Have you never heard of googling what you get yourself tattooed? I've got 5 Tattoos and I googled each and every one before I got it done. And if I have family who come from the same region as the sign I'm getting, OF COURSE I asked them about it! YDI, OP, you deserve that so much.
I googled it, and what I found is there is a Celtic Knot for Purity that has evolved to be a symbol for a female sex slave. It is very possible that she was researching symbols for purity and never came across its new meaning. Although, I will admit, the first hit on google tells you about it.
