Kids talk

Today, while sitting in a crowded waiting room at the doctor's office, my 5-year-old daughter pointed at my 6-year-old son's crotch and boomed, "MOM, WHY DOES ANDY HAVE A FINGER DOWN THERE?" to which he yelled, "IT'S CALLED A COCK!" FML

Why at 6 years old does your son know that word and think its ok to scream in public? Never mind the "****" part, if I'd been screaming in a crowded public room at that age, my parents would have escorted me out for a butt whipping!

You'd be surprised...I've heard a 3 year old yell "**** YOU MOMMY!!"

Show it anyway

I'm not so sure... The 5 year old I nanny for, In pre-k, had a fellow student with parents who didn't care as much as say you and I would, and taught him several swear words as well as select inappropriate words- such as "****" and "dick". Of course I punished him properly and explained why it's wrong and shouldn't be used in public, but once school begins its difficult if not impossible to shelter your child from learning such ugly things from children with lackluster parents. There's also the issue of the infamous "show me yours I will show you mine game" that occurs often at that age. My sister in law is a teacher and had this happen amongst he students often. It's difficult to explain that "little tommy showed Tina his pecker today during recess..."

30, Calm down, you can watch your kids all you want but you can't watch others. What about when they're in school? Also sometimes some parents have small kids take a bath together, no harm done.

#45 exactly, I had baths with my siblings when I was little - it wasn't weird at all to me. In fact, my parents saw nothing wrong with the naked form, and neither do I. Sure, I didn't know what "it" was for when I was little, but I knew boys had one. Why on earth is that shameful or inappropriate? It's just a damn body.

#29 I saw a 5-year old stare at me, said '**** you' and gave me the finger.

Thank you 51! Since when did everyone decide nudity is so harmful and offensive? Sure, labeling the body with inappropriate words at that age is gonna cause issues, but seeing your sibling naked?

I'm questioning how does he know that world?...Seems like that the young ones learn too soon these days!

Really disagree with this. At ages like 5 and 6, a lot of children still don't really understand how they should act in public. Also, as someone's already pointed out, some young siblings (including me and my sibling when we were young) have baths together- and, lets be honest, young boys are always whacking it out to show everyone. As for it being OP's fault that her son knows that kind of language... really?! He probably picked it up from one of the older kids at school, OP can't exactly monitor that. I don't think you understand children very well... to me this just seems like a funny story to embarrass them with later on.

30 You seem like someone who's never had or brought up children....

Actually it seems as if 30 has never been around kids nor been one him/herself. Kids like to run around naked. I've done it, my male neighbours did it back then and later also those a decade younger (at that age I was well aware of the difference but not matue enough to notbe embarrased watchig to little boys play with their "finger") and now my nieces also do it.

There is not much more hilarious than watching a person that has clearly never raised a child telling other people how bad they are at parenting and how things "should" be.

In USA, land of the freaks, it is a big deal...

#94 you're spot on. This is one of the greatest FML's in a while. These criticizers aren't parents and don't know squat. They don't tell you how hard parenting is because people would stop having kids all together. This is 2013 for you. God bless you OP.

At that age, they have no reason to be bathing children of the opposite sex together. That's over an acceptable age for a brother & sister to be sharing a bath. I've got a niece & 3 nephews. The girl bathes alone. The middle boys bathe together *sometimes*. & the youngest, a boy, bathes alone. It's got to do with their ages. It's just not acceptable. In fact, in many states, it's actually illegal for children of opposite sexes to share a bath, or even a bedroom, once they reach this age. Read up before handing out your opinions, please.

He must've somehow watched the pick of destiny

For some reason I don't believe he actually said that.

If he used the word doodle rather than ****, then it would have been more believable coming from a 6 year old child.

It took me a second to get the "finger" thing!

Most embarrassing thing ever am I right

Are you asking a question or making a statement? Because questions have question marks at the end of the sentence. Am I right? Yes, yes I am.

Wasn't much of a question you asked, seemed sort of rhetorical.

My brother was 3 and we visited the Baltimore human science museum and he asked why the woman didn't have a penis. And my dad told him it was a ****** and to ask mommy about it. So he screams on the top of his lungs, "MOMMY WHAT'S A ******!" We got so many stares

And yet the little girl STILL doesn't know why Andy has a finger down there! Quit holding out, OP!

Sigmund Freud would have a field day with this

Why was your daughter able to see his "finger"?? Were his pants down in a crowded waiting room? I'm confused

She might have seen it at another point and time on accident and thought of it at that moment. My little brother was notorious for that.

or OP could be showing them together like some parents do. The instances and opportunities are numerous for her to see her brother's "finger"

Yes 58, some families bathe kids together up until they are old enough to start asking too many questions. My older cousins used to bathe me with my two cousins (male & female close in age) in the bath tub when we visited family down Jamaica... That was before they got running hot water & had to heat it up with a kettle an put it in a basin. Our older cousins washed us together until we were like 6.

Eye contact must of been difficult after that embarrassing moment.

That's pretty ******* hilarious, lol. But yeah FYL.

Well at least she didn't mention how it's rude to point at someone. That's when things would have been awkward.

If I had been in that waiting room I probably would have been petrified for 2 or so minutes and then I probably would have laughed uncontrollably for 20 minutes. But all jokes aside, maybe you should teach your son what is and isn't appropriate to say, especially in public.
