Panic!

Today, I was at the doctor and I had to get a fingerstick in the lab to get blood drawn. There was a 6 year-old boy waiting to go next. He was terrified. His mother told him to, "Watch this brave girl go first." I panicked and began to hyperventilate. The kid fainted. FML

**** the mother's life now she has to deal with a traumatized kid. Doctor visits will be hell for the next 12 years.

What's the deal with ppl afraid of needles? I have a genetic disease that forces me to get blood drawn each year, not a big deal.

poor baby boy now he will never ever be the same DX

I can't understand people who are afraid of needles, but I'm not chronically afraid either, so I dunno. but if you think about the needle sliding into you, it preps endorphins to experience the pain and directs more awareness from the brain to the nerve endings in the area. so try not to think about it. and also, if you feel dizzy and your vision is whack right after you get the shot, it's cause your blood sugar's low. drink a Sierra Mist, that did it for me ;-)

I'd rather get a finger stick.. I have a serious phobia of needles & for a blood test, I had to get one crammed in my arm :| I'd take 100 finger sticks a day in comparison.
