Today, a girl I've been talking to for a couple of weeks invited me to go see a movie with her. I drove halfway across town to meet her, but 40 mins into a 3-hour film, she started obviously fake coughing and left the theater completely. FML

I know right! She texted me after the movie to tell me she left because of the coughing but that's it. I definitely wasn't handsy at all because I met up with her just to hang out, like it wasn't a date at all, and it couldve been real coughing but it was super sudden and out of the blue so idk...

Next time you meet someone first time, start with a coffee. It give you a chance to chat and 30 mins is enough to tell if you want to organize a movie or meal on another occasion. Maybe she hated the movie and didn't want to sit there for 3 hours as it was boring for her given she could not talk....

I mean, I guess there's a possibility that she had some evil reason to play you, but it just seems odd? If she wasn't interested, why go through the effort? Has she messaged you since? Are you sure it was a fake cough? Maybe she had some other reason - e.g. period starting early or smth? It's not like she'd except to have a conversation in the cinema.. If you weren't too handsy and genuinely can't think of a reason why she would want to play you, I'd give her the benefit of the doubt.

She left without saying she was leaving is how I understood the FML. That's just plain rude regardless of why. I wouldn't give her the time of day.

Just because it started out of the blue doesn't mean it's fake. She might have accidentally inhaled something not meant to be inhaled. I did that once during a choir concert, I inhaled my own saliva and had to struggle to hold back the coughs while lip synching and years streaming down my face while on stage. It could have been some thing like that, even more plausible if you had popcorn.

I know it was a typo, but seeing the words "years streaming down my face" made me think of The Princess Bride

Actually OP, it could have been an allergy. When I used to work tables, there was a brand of perfume or deodorant or something (no idea what) that would make me cough uncontrollably and suddenly. As soon as I moved away from the source, it would stop. Move back, start again. I'd even have to give tables away because I couldn't take their order. Not saying it's what happened but it's a possibility.

Heh maybe she left because you didn't get all feely with her and gave up. You are better off no matter what...

She invited him. So even she got bored she was obliged to stay. Good riddance.

Thanks but yeah I usually don't go for the movie date, but in this case what I was going for was simply platonic, so I'd thought it'd be ok because she she invited me, but even still you're probably right.

You don't deserve this (cough). You're a great (cough, cough) guy. Any girl (Cough!) would be lucky to have you. You really dodged (Cough, Ackk, cough) a bullet there. Better off without her (COUGH!). Plenty of fish in the sea, OP. (COUGH, COUGH, COUGHHHH!!!!). Sorry, gotta go!

Honestly the best comment here lol

When she realized that you like long, boring films, she decided you were not for her. I once blew a chance to get laid because I took a girl to the sequel to "Purple Rain!"

I can't think of a worse first date than a three hour long movie. Get coffee or a meal like a regular person.

It really wasn't a date though. It was pretty platonic and I was just glad someone had invited me to go somewhere with them. in all honestly it was her idea to go see that movie. But maybe she decide it was boring and just left.

Okay, but what I really want to know is, which movie was it?

U could have remedied this by escorting her out to the lobby marking sure she was really ok before u let her depart. I assume u barely know her so this would have left a good first impression.

Maybe she was a super hero and had to go foil her villains evil plan.
