Today, my mother excitedly jumped up and down, announcing that one of her sweet younger coworkers got engaged. I wished she'd had the same reaction to my engagement when I announced it to her a few days earlier. FML

Sounds like something my mother would do. I get engaged, she hates my fiancée and doesn't give a shit that I'm happy. My brother knocks up some random girl, and suddenly that girl is "like a daughter." I feel your pain.

Maybe she's less excited about your fiancé than her coworker's pick?

Makes me sad :/ some parents just act awful sometimes. Idk how long ago this all was but if it was recent, congratulations!!

Don't give a shit. That's the best thing you could do.

There goes her invite to your wedding! And if she gets upset about that, tell her to stuff it and shouldn't she be more excited about her co-worker's wedding anyway?

Please don't be too hard on your mom. She may have received your news at a bad time for her, may have thought about past lost love in her life or perhaps have had to change her hopes for your future in that single moment. That's the hallmark version. She could be a b1tch who's not going to be a great mother in law. Only time will tell.

Well save yourself some money and don't invite her

I'm sorry, I feel for you. my mother could have cared less when I told her I was engaged and made it all about her and refused to go dress shopping with me. :(
