Today, I was fired when a customer called corporate, saying I was unprofessional and rude. The "customer" in question was my little sister, who I would not let buy beer with a fake ID. FML

Op here. It's an at will state, and the store had a strict please-all-guests policy. From what I was told it was out of my bosses hands as they actually called corporate and there was no proof it was her. As far as parents well I doubt anything will come of that

Surely they have to keep a record of who the complainant is??? And when the alleged incident occurred? Her childish behaviour warrants her being dragged by the ear to your head office to please explain.

Did they not know who filed the complaint or why the complaint was really sent? Because they should probably check that out first... Bring your sister to your boss to explain what she did, why she did, and to apologize.

Its their way of saying they don't want to bother with you/your sister. Welcome to the corporate world.

I just realized I basically re-worded the first comment. Whoops.

It's OK. I'll give you a thumbsup anyway :)

This just means OP has to get some serious revenge

like making up for the lost money until you get a new job, with an involvement of the parents and a smack.

I dont believe something like that can get you fired .

It sounds like lazy management or they were just trying to find a way to fire you.

Nah OP's sister's lemonade business is where it's at...

Obviously corporate didn't dig deeper into the complaint. Oh I don't know, maybe ask you about it?

EDIT: Ignore my first comment. Talk to your boss and have your little sister explain the shit she tried to pull.

Unfair dismissal? Surely they should be investigating all complaints and not firing you off the words of one 'customer '. Also you should receive three written warnings (depending on the severity of the complaints) before you are fired.

Not necessarily. some states are 'right to work states.' they can fire you at pretty much anytime for any reason. it's a shitty deal, really.

That is a shitty deal. I live in Australia and you can't just fire someone without good reason to and you must put everything in writing or risk having the former employee take legal action.

Right to work doesn't mean they can fire you for nothing. That's the "at will" employment law. Right to work is about the choice whether or not to join a union. Who keeps spreading this misinformation?

My mistake. Wrong terminology, but you get my point.
