Today, after missing my flight and being stuck on the other side of the globe, I received a call telling me that the "male, neutered" kitten I adopted 7 months ago is now pregnant. FML

Oh hi, OP here with much desired answers its seems. I adopted the cat from the local vet/asylum. They gave it to me as male and neutered. Even in the store I spotted it was most probably a she, but I didn't want to make a fuss and didn't care. I named her Violet, and she has a little brother named Dash. Kudos to whomever gets the reference. The big surprise for me was that not only did the vet **** up the gender, they also got the neutered part wrong.

Did you just assume the cats gender?! TRIGGERED

Everyone saying, "how could you not know the cats gender???", OP could've adopted the car after it had already been fixed (or so they thought), therefore, it would be harder to tell because the cat wouldn't have balls :-))

If the animal was fixed, the vet that did it, should be fired. I'm assuming the cat wasn't a young kitten, so you should have been able to tell if you looked down there. when my cat had kittens, I could tell what they were very young.

Well one of my cats was listed as female at the shelter. We had it fixed and i was reading the paper work and found out it was actually a male by the notes taken during the procedure.

Um...didn't kitty go to the vet before (or immediately after) being adopted? Vets are pretty good at determining the gender and fertility status of kittens.

all dogs are boys, all cats are girls... duh

You just didn't take it to the vet? You should always get a new pet checked out quickly after you get it, just in case there's anything serious that the person you adopted from didn't tell you.

Adopting 2 kittens requires a big heart. Will you adopt me too? :)

I'm wondering if she got pregnant from her brother Dash... Unless he is a tiny kitten

Omfg Lucario227, that was hilarious. A+ for reference use. Well done.

Did you tell the place you adopted her from how much of a mistake they made? I bet they are doing that to a lot more people!

Please let the shelter know. Having a cat intact, and screwing up the gender, is super irresponsible. Most places are really, really big into preventative neutering to keep stray populations down, so that's crazy.

Just wanted to say I LOVE their names OP! That's been one of my favorite movies since I was a kid! Good luck with them and enjoy ;)

My grandma has a cat who we thought was female but weren't sure. Either way, we took the cat to the vet to be fixed. The vet confirmed the cat was female and performed the surgery. After a trip to another vet for a routine check up did we find out the cat was actually male and not fixed at all. He did have a scar from the original surgery, but we have no idea what they actually did to this poor cat. The first vet had been long gone by that point.

@52- Not even close bud, how could you **** it up even AFTER someone mentioned what movie was??

@63 Maybe they were trying to make a joke?

Depending on how old the kitten was when the OP adopted him, kittens don't tend to convey strong masculine or feminine features--just adorableness!

No, but claiming whether or not they are neutered or spayed matters. I LOVE kittens, but I recognize we have too may kitties that need homes as it is. So if you think you're being responsible by having a cat that's fixed, and then you find out they're not, that's a big issue.

I'm more confused on how they missed the gender when they went to neuter the little scamp. The fact that what they were going to cut off wasn't there should have been a big damn clue.

Apparently they saw no balls and thought, 'This one is done'
