Today, after missing my flight and being stuck on the other side of the globe, I received a call telling me that the "male, neutered" kitten I adopted 7 months ago is now pregnant. FML

Oh hi, OP here with much desired answers its seems. I adopted the cat from the local vet/asylum. They gave it to me as male and neutered. Even in the store I spotted it was most probably a she, but I didn't want to make a fuss and didn't care. I named her Violet, and she has a little brother named Dash. Kudos to whomever gets the reference. The big surprise for me was that not only did the vet **** up the gender, they also got the neutered part wrong.

Did you just assume the cats gender?! TRIGGERED

Everyone saying, "how could you not know the cats gender???", OP could've adopted the car after it had already been fixed (or so they thought), therefore, it would be harder to tell because the cat wouldn't have balls :-))

Wait what ? excuse me while i spit off my morning coffee in shock

we had our two tabby orange cats which we thought were males, because, almost all orange tabbys are males, taken in to get fixed and they turned out both to be females.

... I would love to see pictures of those cats. A single female orange tabby would be incredibly rare, but TWO?!? That's supposed to be a genetic impossibility! Plus, you could probably just forego the fixing and save the cash for a fancy cat tree or something else to pamper them. Since male calicoes are sterile, I'd expect the same to be true of female orange tabbies.

Male calico cats are sterile because of a genetic mutation, their dna has an extra chromosome (xxy) Female orange tabby cats don't have the same issue so they aren't naturally sterile.

I foster for a rescue and I currently have a litter of five kittens. Of the five, three are orange. Of the three, two are female. What are the odds, right?

I think you should be more concerned about being on the other side of the globe

sexing kittens is really hard if you show a kitten to 5 different people you will get 5 different genders enjoy the kittens they can be fun

Don't take this the wrong way OP, but how do you not notice that your cat isn't a male? I understand that they were supposedly neutered, but that doesn't meant that they remove the whole apparatus. They only remove the testiculars. So if it didn't have the other part before hand, it was most definitely never a man.
