Today, I called asking about a job I interviewed for 3 weeks ago. It's a scummy call center where known drug addicts work. They told me I wasn't getting the job. I guess my high school diploma and being drug-free makes me not good enough to work there. FML

"abuse money by buying drugs" In what way is that abusing money? People buy beer and cigarettes all the time. They spend money on tattoos, which by all arguments can be just as addictive and are technically just as useless as recreational drugs . You yourself appear to have piercings which I would argue are just as big of a waste of money as any drug someone might do. You can't argue that they add to your quality of life in any significant way. They don't cure cancer, put food on the table, or pay for that college you are trying to save up for. They are just something you got because you thought they were cool. What a person does in their free time does not necessarily effect what they do at work. If the "known drug addicts" are doing their jobs and doing them correctly, you have no place to speak about whether they should have that job or not. You are no more deserving of a job than anyone else who wants to and actually does work. This is especially true if the person hired over you is older with more experience in the field.

I don't know how it is in America, but here in Australia, a lot of places look down on tattoos and piercings even though it is discrimination. What someone does in their private life that doesn't affect their ability to work, doesn't matter to the company. How a person looks on a day to day basis at work, apparently does. And by the way, I smoke pot and I work full time and study. So not every person who uses drugs doesn't deserve to work.

Not really sure why this got so many down votes....

Im not sure either? I'm quite confused. So much for trying to be supportive.

I'm sorry it took you having to call in after 3 weeks to call in and fond out you didn't get the job. I understand that you need a job and you would have done great at it no matter who works there, but sometimes when one door closes on life another one opens and there will be something better out there for you. Good luck in the job hunt! :)

Or it could be you holy than thou attitude.

That is such an ignorant thing to say. Just because someone does drugs doesn't make you more worthy of a job. Those people are being given a chance. One that they probably won't get elsewhere because of people like you. Grow up. Part of being an adult is being able to accept rejection. There are people with degrees who can't get hired at target. It has a lot to do with your attitude and people you know.

OP- I wouldn't hire someone with your attitude ha. They probably saw your FML bio aswell

#39 "You should learn to live with disappointment, it builds character" - David Sloan Your post brought this quote to mind so I decided to share

THAT attitude is maybe why you won't get the job, OP, telling someone to **** off because they wanna point out your flaws, you sound no better than the other workers.

I would love to see what she has to say about these comments.

Congratulations, you're the first OP reply I've ever wanted to thumb down in years of reading FML!

Your post and your follow ups tell me that your attitude utterly stinks. Sort that and learn some respect and you might actually been seen as employable.

OP, your just an ass. With that attitude it's no wonder you didn't get the job, hell i think you would be lucky to get any job at all.

You sound like a spoiled child not ready to enter the workforce anyway.

@109 Highascloud "It's a scummy call center where known drug addicts work. " Bad attitude to have about a place you are applying. An attitude that tends to show regardless of how respectful you believe you are being or how properly attired you are. " I guess my high school diploma and being drug-free makes me not good enough to work there." Holier than thou attitude example one. The assumption that being drug-free and having a high school diploma automatically makes her better than the people who work there. Holier than thou attitude example two from her comment in this chain " I mean people who abuse money by buying drugs should definitely get a job over me. I mean it's not like I'm trying to save up so I can afford college or anything. **** off." The assumption that what she needs money for is so much more important than what anyone working there or getting hired in her place needs it for. Hell, that one is based in the assumption that the person they hired instead of her couldn't possibly also need money for college or anything. She defiantly knows that the person they hired instead of her is just going to shoot that money into their veins while failing to do the job as well as she would have.

You have a really shitty attitude. That's probably why they didn't hire you. Call Centres hire people whose voices/attitudes can calm irate customers. You are clearly very bitter and resentful. I wouldn't hire you.

Could it be that they only hire drug addicts as a form of rehab, or just keeping them off the streets?

sounds like the job made the right call with that attitude.

An attitude like that is probably why you didn't get the job.

I use drugs and I bet I outwork you everyday lady. Your assumptions and stereotypical views of your would be coworkers makes me thank sweet Jesus your ass is still unemployed. Maybe my druggie ass can support your unemployment checks because with your ignorant outlook I doubt you will do any work anytime soon.

Give that interviewer a raise they dodged a bullet with that one!! :-)

Thanks everyone! I guess this door closing means another will open up. I really appreciate all the nice things being said.

I honestly wouldn't want to work there anyways but a job is a job. Hope you find something soon.

I'm a college graduate who interviewed with the company I'm currently with 6 times before getting a job there. It has a lot to do with attitude and tenacity. Perhaps, next time, view the rejection as a means of improving yourself instead of discrediting others? In any case, good luck on the job hunt.

I'm sure it is a shitty job, but you shouldn't speak bad about any place you apply for because having a "I'm above this place" attitude is the reason half of the people I've worked with at my summer job got fired or just didn't get the job. Granted my summer job hires everyone but I enjoy it thanks to my department's supervisors trying to improve it. Fortunately at my full time job that "better than you" attitude doesn't exsist, just a gossipy all women one (I just try and do the job and not get involved in drama).

Try having a different attitude. Maybe employers would actually consider you if you act like an adult. Good luck in college. YDI after your responses.

Well did you really wanna work along side drug addicts? That might have gotten you trapped in that deep hole yourself overtime.

I agree with the other users. If I got offered a job there, I wouldn't accept it. Good luck op.

I know how shitty this feels. My drug addict ex-friend has 3 jobs and I can't even get one. It's frustrating as all hell.

Maybe there's a reason for that. Employers have reasons for hiring and not hiring people.

With that attitude towards the company it's no wonder you didn't get the job. Regardless of whether or not it is a scummy place to work, going into the interview with that sort of attitude towards them is not going to get you the job.

You cudnt have put it better. I know it's a job and that but the way OP talks about it seem like they didn't want to work there anyway.

You assume you know how I acted in my interview. You don't know anything about it. I went into my interview with respect, I had a good attitude and I dressed properly.

Maybe they could tell that you had a bad attitude and weren't a people person between the lines of whatever you said, OP. After reading everything you've said on here, I wouldn't hire you either.

Okay OP, dressed properly, eh? Worn out hoody? Acted with respect? Oh nice, you were able to only use the F word twice!!

OP stop being so defensive, blaming everyone else for your problems, and looking down on others. "This lesser person got something *I* deserved WAAAAAH!" That attitude will not get you far in life, and it will just leave you bitter and depressed. I know people like that, and they are ALWAYS unhappy with what they get in life. Instead, say, "What is there that I could have done better? How can I improve myself to go further in the future?" A little conscious and deliberate self-reflection with the intention of improving yourself goes a long way...

have to say op 43 sounds right. judging by every comment you made here you have no respect for the business, nor the people. Most hr people are good judge of attitudes a simple glance will show what you think.

I'm sorry op, something like that happened to me recently. I got hired at McDonald's and they said they'd call me about orientation but then, they called me saying they forgot about me and hired someone else so they don't need me anymore, the person they hired is a druggie I know who just wants the money for drugs. I just want to save for college.

I'm so sorry! But good luck on finding another job, I know how hard it is.

Employers don't care what you want the money for, only how well you will work. That being said, I have been turned down for jobs because I was over qualified and they knew I would soon want something more suited to my skills and quit once I found a better job.

I've been on hiring committees every spring and summer for years now. And I'll clue you in on something OP. We don't care what you want the money for. We don't care about your private life. What we care about is whether or not you really want to work and whether or not you're a team player. And with an attitude like you're it seems like you think you're above that job, like you'd lower yourself to work there. Based solely on the FML, you'd need a spectacular interview to make the top three and be seriously considered. But that's just me.

I have been supervisor/manager and even part owner of several companies and you are 100% correct! I could care less what you do with your money, all I care about is if your attitude and work ethic.
