OP here. You're exactly right, it's like a humid and muggy kind of heat, even in Scotland... :')

You should get a white noise machine they really work
try buying a fan.
I'd have to tolerate the heat, I think. It's different if it's a sort of constant/consistent/rhythmic noise, like traffic or something, but having seagulls cawing outside your window all night without any kind of rhythm is bloody awful. Best of luck, OP. :P
I understand your pain except with damn tree frogs. Growing up my father didn't believe in AC because we lived in the country and could keep doors and windows open. Only problem was we had 42 acres of chirping tree frogs. Fans were not a cure all as it simply pushed the hot heat around the room. I chose the heat. Best of luck.

SCREAM AT THEM SCARE THEM AWAY CAHCAHCAH
they would come right back
I am in that exact situation in Devon right now. They NEVER sleep!! I swear it is midnight and they are squawking away - and 4am they chatter loud enough to wake the dead. They have high pitched squawks like babies crying or a siren and just do not shut up. I have very quickly developed an intense loathing for seagulls.. especially as it is so hot I cannot sleep without my windows open.
