Wouldn't they be laughing at the dumbass who walked into the wrong class 5 times
Are you sure being a teacher is the right job for you? Kids can be cruel. Are you sure you can handle this?
I don't know why people are disliking my comment. I didn't insult OP. I just asked if being a teacher is the right job for her. In my High School years I've met a few teachers who loved teaching but they simply couldn't handle the kids. One of them ended up having a mental breakdown and left for a few months. Things weren't any better when she came back. Some people are just not made for that kind of job. The fact that a few kigs laughing at OP made her feel bad could be a clue that this isn't the right job for her. It's better to switch careers than spend years being depressed and burned-out.
It was her first day...
i once had a teacher who was ex army and had done multiple tours and she only taught my class and even then it was only for a total of 5 hours a week. she left after 1 and a half weeks due a nervous breakdown and other things caused by certain individuals of my class. Teaching really isnt an easy job.
it sounded condescending I guess.
She's probably gone through student teaching and has decided based upon that that she is sure she wants to be a teacher. It probably just got to be overwhelming because she wants to be the best teacher she can be and the door keeps opening, the kids are laughing now, she feels frazzled, etc. So I'm sure she'll be fine, she just needs some time to get used to having a class of her own. If she gets overwhelmed, hopefully her grade level will help her out. :)
During my first year of teaching, I went home and cried at least once a week. Nothing can really prepare you for the first time in your own classroom-- not even student teaching. The first couple of years of teaching are incredibly difficult-- that's why there is such a high turn-over rate for teachers in their first five years.
45, what was so difficult about it? I've never looked into teaching, even though I don't doubt it's stressful, and your comment makes me curious.
Things kids do or say (especially before you develop a thick skin), trying to juggle each class and remembering where each class is in the curriculum, writing curriculum (after a few years this gets easier because you build up lessons to use/adapt), parent calls/complaints, the humongous amount of paperwork, department/school wide meetings/committees, extra-curricular activities, reporting child abuse or helping kids with home/family problems. Not to mention any classes you might be taking to get your certification or graduate degree and living off of a first year teacher's salary and trying to pay rent. After you've been doing it a while, it gets easier and you can juggle things better, but the first few years are rough.
That's sad. Why would she need to interrupt 5 times? You'd think she'd get the picture the first time round. Anyway, don't let it bother you. There's going to be a lot more shit you'll have to deal with in your class room than interrupting teachers. So be prepared. Just remember, as far as the students are concerned, be their teacher as well as their friend. The best teachers I had at school were the ones who casual, calm and relaxed and would talk to us like they were someone our age, who understood us. That's not to say they didn't whoop our ass if we didn't get the work done, but you know. Nice and easy. Slowly but surely. You'll be fine :)
I would really like to know how she thought it was her class. Did she think you were a TA or have that room the year before??
That's awful, teaching is hard enough without your colleagues making it harder!
she thought it was her classroom 5 separate times? how do you do that? what, she walked in, realized it wasn't, n then made a scene?
Alzheimer's?
#39 I'm pretty sure they wouldn't let them teach if they had alzheimers
Don't worry about the kids laughing at you, they'll prefer your lessons if they can have a laugh at things and they'll pay more attention in hopes that something else funny happens.
The second time it happened, I would have sent her to the principal's office!
Heh, sucks. Trust me though, get on board with kids laughing. I've been teaching for 6 years, and if you can't laugh with the laughter... it wears you down pretty fast. Also, presuming you're teaching teenagers, you might want to read up a bit about the psychology of a teen 'brain'. They are off the planet. Literally, scientifically, and irritatingly. Really helps to understand that you're not teaching logical people most of the time. ;)
Teach those kids to respect your authoritah.

No need to worry, just make sure the next day you show you are in control so the students don't take you as a light weight.
Do you share a room or something? How does a teacher confuse someone else's class for her own?
