Today, my now fully vaccinated puppy went to a restaurant for the first time. They allow clean, well-behaved dogs. He threw up everywhere from excitement. FML

Pupluv183 tells us more.

OP here. The restaurant allows dogs, saying its illegal when it's obviously not makes no sense. He is 5 months, more than a week after the vaccination. No way was he going anywhere the day of. He goes on walks in public (touristy) areas and has met many people and dogs. He had never thrown up before so that's why it was so surprising. He has been fine since so we just have to chalk it up to excitement. He was very well behaved but very upset that none of the food going by was for him. And no we absolutely can not leave him alone while we go out. He is like a toddler, I go pee and he has gotten into something, if there is nothing to get into he chews on furniture, if there's no furniture he chews himself and barks until he gets tired. We definitely want him social and coming out with us over all that.

Puppies are usually not the most well behaved.

"This is why we can't go to nice places!"

Why the hell would you take your dog to a restaurant...

Dogs don't belong in restaurants. It's disgusting and illegal.

Don't bring puppies to restaurants. They aren't fully trained/fully in control of themselves

That's what crates are for. There's nothing to get into if you leave them there for an hour or two. He'll eventually learn not to chew himself if you leave him with a toy.

You're setting yourself up for a dog with separation anxiety if you literally NEVER leave him alone. My dog used to have it bad when he was little, and that's even with crate training while I was at work. At some point you'll have to leave him to his own devices. Crate training is wonderful for housebreaking, too. I won't call you an irresponsible dog owner like some others are. I took my dog to a dog friendly coffee shop when he was ~5 months and had him on the patio of the bar I frequent at 2 years and he did pretty well both times. Excitement can get to them, so don't give up. Good luck with your pup!

the dog threw up. thats it. from being excited. it is the first and last time its happened. Im a grown adult human and the same shit has happened to me. Shes obviously getting the dog socialized so i dont know why you think shes soley introducing through walks with the "masses". Crate or no crate you as a pitty mom should know that they arent always useful. my bully will pick at it till hes through. its a pretty common thing. same as chewing shit up. i agree with the comment about setting up the dog for seperation anxiety but the op has valid concerns for her puppy like choking, getting into something toxic etc. If there is a dog friendly restaraunt why os it a bad thing that she "insist" taking her dog out? Not all dogs are red zones/ high aggression. Even if they are it dosent mean that they are statically like that. Its in the owner and the training. the only thing here that happened was the dog got sick, op got embarassed. jesus

unfortunately my puppy is a rescue, his original owners kept him locked in a crate 24/7 which led to some bad physical problems and a huge fear of crates. Physically he is much much better!

which i also get. my dogs a rescue, similar with the point of 24/7 lock up and extreme mental/physical abuse. sep anxiety was an after effect for us. Going from lock up, abuse and trauma to a home 360* different. i would never want to be without my new human either. Ive had him for 7 years, and once in a blue moon it kicks in again. good for you for showing your puppy that your world is not the same as the one he came from, and that not all people, buildings, whatever are bad. The best advice i can give you is to lead by example. keep calm and sure. your dog picks up on your energy. best of luck, a lot of people dont have the time and feelings to commit to rehabilitatiom

finally someone being reasonable and not blaming the dog or the owner. This could not be avoided or prevented. Leave OP alone everyone tell her that shes not raising the dog right or smothering the dog and other shit. You dont know their story. You are just people scrolling through here trying to push your opinions and views onto others and beat others down because you dont have the balls, energy, or confidence to do anything else but scroll through here at all hours of the day. So leave her alone. And if you dont have anything nice to say then dont leave a rude comment. thank you, and have a nice day.

Please don't listen to the crate talk. There's a reason crates for dogs are illegal in some countries

My dog was always locked in the bathroom by an old owner who hated him and now he will not stay in one room too long without panicking. You can't expect OP to put a cratephobic dog in a crate. I personally despise crates. Dogs just take training, not being locked in a confined space.

Oh man! You could not be more wrong. You haven't spent much time around them, have you? Some of them can be pretty bad.

Awww puppies are cute. I want to hug the doggie now :o

#58 Sounds like he really isn't well behaved enough to take somewhere like a restaurant. If he is still chewing shit up then he should not be in public. Dogs are not like children certain things won't be acceptable. If you refuse to leave him alone your setting your dog up to be spoiled and run all over you.

Oh and the employees were VERY understanding and we tipped well, but that wasn't enough to make me feel less mortified.

did y'all not get that the dog will chew himself?? so even if she did crate him the bills for vet visits would be outrageous. if you can, see about getting him trained to be an E.S.A. (emotional service animal)

its okay, it wasn't your fault or the dogs, I hope you offered to help clean it up and the rest of the experience went well! Dont blame the dog for being excited. Hope it wasnt to bad! and do not blame the dog. He didn't mean it.

I've never understood the urge some people have to take their animals everywhere. They behave...well, they behave like animals.

I take my dog out with me where ever I can. She is 4 and extremly well behaved and although I have full voice control over her, I always obey local laws etc. I don't allow her to approach strangers either. For some people, dogs are more than a pet, they are literally part of the family. That's why people take their dogs out. Some dogs need more supervision than others, or more training to correct bad behaviour. Saying 'dogs by act like animals' is a silly thing to say, I have seen hundreds of dogs in public that behave better than screaming, tantrum throwing toddlers/children/teenagers/adults. Not all humans behave badly, and nor do all dogs!
