Today, after seeing my cat struggle to use the litterbox and produce nothing for two days, I caved and took him to the emergency vet, fearing a UTI. It wasn't. $200 and 2 Lyft rides later, he's stoned out of his mind and peeing just fine. FML

Today, I was nervous about taking my cat to the vet for a UTI, because money’s a little tight. Turns out the antibiotics weren’t that expensive, but he wants at least $1,000 for dental surgery she apparently “needs.” FML

Today, I took my cat to the vet for an x-ray. They found three dollar coins in his stomach. The surgery to remove them is $600. FML

Today, I took my dog to the vet because he hadn't eaten his food in three days, was drinking a lot of water, and was peeing a lot (all signs of antifreeze poisoning). I spent $200 at the vet to tell me that my dog is fine and just didn't like his current food. FML

Today, I found out after $200 worth of checks and tests, three rugs being ruined from her peeing and pooping on them, that my cat isn't sick. She just has really bad separation anxiety. FML

Today, I woke up to go pee and my cat followed me into the bathroom as usual. Then, in a not so usual fashion, she tried to jump from the sink to the top of the toilet, missed, and fell into the bowl while I was peeing. I'm scratched in a bad place, I have urine to clean up off the bathroom floor, and a traumatized cat. FML

Actually, it's much more likely that the vet himself gave Kitty Kat some sort of pain opioid to help it more easily urinate. Note that OP only said that afflicted feline had been having difficulty (voiding) for 2 days (that implies pain), not that it was already falling over stoned.

am i stupid or everyone else for thinking the vet gave the cat drugs to help the problem rather than assuming the cat was stoned thus cuasing a problem

You did the right thing. It's entirely possible he was starting to get blocked, but it went away on its own. Blockage in male cats can kill them. It's always better to pay a vet bill and have it turn out to be nothing than to wait and have the worst happen.
