Today, I went to the doctor, who confirmed I have a minor infection 'down there'. It’s not sexually transmitted, but since there were no obvious symptoms, he asked how I knew something was wrong, I just couldn’t tell him my husband was going down on me and noticed it tasted different from normal. I can pretty much promise you that your doctor is aware that oral is a thing and that it’s not the worst thing he’s heard today.

That would be actually quite useful information. Taste and smell down there changes throughout the cycle, but if it smells or tastes what is not normal for you, you should always seek doctor advice. Might be nothing, might be reaction to detergent, but also bacterial or viral infection, fungus, std/sti, or simple diet change. Smell and taste are quite significant part of diagnosis. Rather to be embarrassed for a moment in front of a professional who could help you fix the issue than not saying anything. Probably more embarrassing if you don't check it out, when you smell the issue others have smelled it already. Get checked, tell how you found out (might be useful for research, like the woman who can smell Alzheimer's helped with the test creation) Having healthy and satisfying sex life is part of life and believe me when I say doctors know and have heard it before, for them it is a part of a job and the more you say the more it helps to decrease the possibilities and diagnose you faster.

Are you sure it's not from the oral?

My wife is treating an infection. Almost everyone gets an infection in the groinal area at least once in their life, and men can get yeast infections from partners that develop it, (trust me, I know) Doctors know all of this. It’s normal.
