Today, I was asked to leave a party because apparently I was a buzzkill. It was my party, for my birthday, at my house. All my friends and relatives basically sent me to my room for being too tired to party, so they could get pissed in my front room and pillage my fridge. FML

Today, I was feeling too tired because I couldn't sleep last night, due to my mother's snoring. Since I stayed with both my parents and my sister in a small town for a vacation, I requested to sleep in separate rooms because my mother's snoring is disgustingly loud. She refused, and called me a crybaby. FML

Something tells me that they've already bought you a present, and they are secretly upset, because they couldn't wait to give the present to you. They would be disappointed that they have to return the present and get you a pillow instead. Just a speculation. Happy Birthday!

So why not get the pillow in addition to the present? If it's an expensive pillow I can understand why you would want to return the other gift, but if not I don't understand why returning the first gift would even cross your mind.
