Today, my boss fired me from my job at a local family-owned business. Thanks, mom. FML

Just because she's your mom doesn't mean you get special treatment. If one of my kids worked for me and they weren't up to par, yeah I'll can them. Welcome to the real world.

You don't deserve special treatment just because you're family, OP. If you don't work hard there are plenty of people who need jobs who are willing to take your place.

You gotta work hard (not) for "mom" to fire ya!!

I know the pressure of being 1st is tremendous, but come on now.. That was bad.

Nooo? I think he has to work hard so he can develop proper work ethics and skills to further advance in the working workd to successfully land a decent job to provide for himself.

I agree with you about special treatment, but OP could've been a pretty good worker. A friend of mine works at his mom's bookstore and she threatens to fire him all the time. He's 22, but she says she'll fire him if he tries to move out.

I have to disagree about the special treatment portion. Nepotism isn't uncommon, but often times family members ride each other harder than the average employee. It's a two way street, special treatment isn't always a good thing.

I would think that because OP is her kid, the mom actually holds higher standards than that of a brand new employee she doesn't know.

If you don't work the best that you can, then don't expect to be treated the best that you can.

Who cares she does who wants to work for their mommy

AT lest i dnt type lykE tis, like come on dude. It's not THAT bad!

It tends to be the small details that set the grammar parasites off.

I'm not a grammar Nazi. I'm a teacher. Bazinga! (but I really am a teacher)

Amen. I work in a family business which so happens to be owned by MY mom, and that's what I remind myself on a daily basis before I get snippy with her. OP should have been glad to have a job!

Trust me you are better off working away from the family!!! I'm stuck at family business and I wish they would fire me!

If u wished they fired you, why don't you just quit?

:'( I tried many times, they won't accept it and call me an ungrateful heartless person for leaving my family to work for strangers :'( Fml, right?

Tried that! **** I'm really stuck for ever! :'(

Mom being boss doesn't really give you immunity. Maybe she doesn't think you were a good worker, OP?

Just gotta show her the best work ethic you can offer. Best way to keep any job (or get one back in your case).

tough love it is then. Jeez. I'd never do that to my kids. A bitch mother ya got there, op. :/

You think it's better to coddle them and keep them from learning how the world really works? If someone doesn't do their job, they get fired. OP had to learn that sooner or later.

olpally 32

I know, but damn, in this economy? I know nothing comes easy, but that was just cold. If Your own mother did that to you, how would you feel? That's shitty. Don't coddle them but don't give them a shit deal.

FMLs are short. For all we know, the OP has been refusing to pull his weight for weeks.

46- And by the same token, the OP could actually be a decent worker, but is held up to higher standards because he's her son. Or his mom IS a bitch who fired him for trivial reasons. This is one of those FMLs where we really need more information before judging OP...

#38 he's right, we don't know what he did wrong. but there is no difference of feeling between getting fired by your mom, or just another boss. it feels shitty all together, but if she just let him do whatever he wanted then if he jumos in his career with the same mentalities and habbits.. then he'd REALLY be screwed. maybe this time (if he did anything wrong) he'll kearn from it and not be screwed out of potential jobs that are better in the fututre. I think she did him a favor.
