It's a learned behavior

Today, I got a phone call from my daughter’s school. Turns out, an African-American girl approached her and tried to play with her, but my daughter cut her off and said, "I don’t want to play with a black person." I have no idea where she learned this. FML

reminds of the this FML where this little girl said black people are ugly and the parents don't know where she heard it from

How old is your daughter? Time for a serious talk, I think.

well odds are it's coming from somewhere in the family, it's now your job to figure out from who exactly.

Maybe she's learning from your or your partner's parents? I've seen it happen a few times where the grandparents try to shove their views down tiny children's throats as young as possible while the parents aren't watching.

Grade school social dynamics are freaking savage. Probably less to do with race more to do with perceived social hierarchy.

I would have been BEYOND humiliated and embarrassed! oh my god! I would also be so MAD and my child would have been in DEEP TROUBLE.

Often as parents we joke in private but kids dont understand the context and think its ok to think like that....could be grd parents too

thats messed up. now would be a good time to correct that. you will look like a racist
