Today, my caring way too much about proper grammar got out of hand when I corrected my girlfriend during a talk about her dying grandmother. FML

There's a difference between caring about grammar and being a dick about it. Learn some manners.

this comment is really going to get on you're nerve

There's a time and a place for everything. Your timing and placement was grammatically incorrect.

Where has snickerdoodles gotten to? Haven't seen them in so long I can't remember if they were male or female ;-;

Is nobody else concerned about the poor use of grammar in a post dedicated to grammar? "Today, my caring way too much about proper grammar got out of hand when..." If you are going to get nit-picky, you should know that this sentence does not follow the rules of proper grammar. You could have said "my devotion to proper grammar" or "the fact that I care way too much about proper grammar". Those both sound better anyway. I normally wouldn't say anything, but I just couldn't help it considering the fact that your post was about your devotion to proper grammar.

It isn't a black-and-white matter. You can refer to what Fowler wrote in Chapter II: Syntax under 'The Gerund'.

Someone has to make every topic about race....

I noticed. I was just too lazy to say anything. Beautifully said though.

What the heck? I meant there is no clear-cut answer for possessives before gerunds. It is a highly controversial matter subject to much debate. There is nothing racial in my comment.

While I appreciate the use of proper grammar, grammar nazis drive me crazy. Unless they are completely butchering the English language, I'll let a few minor errors go.

Snicks was a she and I think she left after everyone started hating on her.
