Where I live (NJ) cops are legally allowed to use their cell phone while driving, because if their dispatch calls them they are required to answer. I don't know if all states are like that, but I know that most of them are....

Fun fact - in most places police are allowed to talk in their phones while driving because they have a higher level of driver training (including how to talk and drive safely) that the rest of us don't and their job requires them to be able to communicate at all times. So basically, leave enforcing the laws to the police. I know if I was talking on a phone while driving (legally or not) and some random guy started waving at me to put it away I'd just ignore him.. as would anybody else. At the very least you're providing yet ANOTHER distraction for them, as well as not paying attention to the road yourself. So yeah. It's not often I say this but you deserve it.

There should be a police for the police... They have to be fined too when they are talking on the phone, or making a forbidden turn, etc.
