I would assume she was making up the shin splints as an excuse personally.. but anyways.. even if she was telling the truth, dont you get shin splints from simply not being conditioned enough? the only time i get them is when i havnt run in while... so if thats true then shes kinda saying she did bad because she hasnt practiced... which is why most people would do bad
not an fml so your slow... who cares
she was probably lying to you.
Sucks! I was always great at other stuff, but I was never meant to be a runner. My swim team coach in university told me that everyone is either naturally a runner or a swimmer; few people are equally good at both. I'm a fantastic swimmer and in very good shape, etc., but I'm a horrible, slow runner. Maybe you're a swimmer. :)
lol!!!! well... did u make an excuse?
she sounds lame for needing an excuse in that situation, and also telling it to someone she probably doesn't know. I had shin splints my entire high school soccer and cross country career and they don't slow you down, only make everything a lot more painful. Tell her to suck it up. Also, if you don't want to be last, it's more about practice than anything else, even though some people really are just talented in running.

Wow... Hm... I don't really know what to say but that is... sad I am sorry (Also, NO ONE CARES IF YOU'RE FIRST. So shut up)
Don't worry, you will improve!! I was in track and cross country and used to lose every single race, but I kept improving every year and I started doing really well! That's the thing about running, you really see AMAZING improvements. Have fun and believe in yourself!! Pushing your body will make you improve fastest. (And don't run too much because you might get flat foot like I did :S)
