The first date must've been amazing

Today, I went on a second date. He gave me the wrong directions to the restaurant. When it was time to pay for our meal, he casually mentioned that he forgot his wallet. I had to pay, and also tip the waitress who was all over him and didn't spare me a second glance. I'm unemployed and broke. He has a job and it was his idea to eat out. FML

Ami Ditbacher tells us more.

Yay my FML story got published! Thanks for all the great suggestions and witty comments (: this guy stopped me on the street about 2 months ago and he seemed pretty okay but I wasn't really looking to date/get into bed with someone. I broke up with my ex last year and some ugly things happened afterwards which left me incredibly insecure, alone and vulnerable. I guess that's why I'm letting people walk all over me? Anyways I gave the guy the benefit of the doubt twice already and there is no doubt now that he's not a nice person. I was absolutely okay with paying for my own meal. His "I-forgot-my-wallet" bit was a shock to me since I've never encountered someone who would be so rude. Also I always tip in restaurants as I usually get a fair treatment (and I rarely eat out since it's expensive and I prefer to cook my own food). In this case the waitress went into complete asshole mode once she got her tip and totally ignored me. And obviously I didn't put out (: I actually told the guy that I'm just looking for friends but he still felt me up without my consent. All in all: not a nice experience.

Not sure how/why he managed to get to a second date, but if there is a third, that's on you!

You should report the waitress to her manager, then she'll be unemployed and broke. He seems to be drawn to poor chicks. I hope you didn't put out after dinner.

I really feel for you, I too have been in this exact situation. Walk away now, you deserve so much better.

You only had to pay for your own meal. You didn't have to tip the waitress. Do you not have a spine?

I was out with friends. We each paid our own bill. My friend accidentally paid for mine and not hers. The waitress caught it after she left. Her bill was more than mine. They were going to send the police after her for a few bucks. I paid it and next time she picked up both her meal and mine. Nobody is required to pay another persons bill.

"Oh, you forgot your wallet? Okay. Hang on a sec, I gotta go to the restroom. Then, we can leave here and go 'dancing', 'to have a few drinks', 'to my place', 'to your place' ." On your way to use the restroom, 'accidentally' go out the door of the restaurant. Keep going and don't turn back!

Haha that's a great suggestion! Unfortunately that restaurant is built in a way that there was no way to escape discreetly. I guess I should have just gotten up and left. In case I'll be stuck in a situation like this again (hopefully not!) I'll definitely follow your advice (:

Don’t be afraid to leave a bad situation. Back before I was married, and I met my husband as a teen, I always put it out there that for the first few dates, we both pay our own way. I didn’t do it for your reason. You know. Teen boys buy ya dinner, expect sex in return. That’s why I did it. But i would have dropped my part of the money on the table and walked out. Glad you learned from the experience. Sorry you had to go through it. Dating sucks.

You can ask for the bill to be split and only pay your portion. It is on you if you paid for his.
