Reality hits you hard, bro.
Get over it. Your parents don't have to pay for your college. They can if they want to but it is your responsibility. Time to crunch numbers and compare your potential income vs the loans. 2 year vs 4 year.
Hey! There is absolutely NOTHING wrong with having your parents pay your tuition for you. My parents are doing so for my brother and me. Tuition isn't very high for in state students (about $7,000/year = 3,500/semester minus scholarships makes it about $1,700 on average a semester for the both of us.) Maybe it's just because my parents understand that they are still responsible for us even AFTER we turn 18 (i'm 20 now and still living at home, my brother decided to move out, and I'm perfectly fine where I am at the moment) I don't understand why people think it's such a shame to have parents pay for their children's education, especially if they have the means to do so. Every family is different and does what they are able to do and it's no-one's business to criticize what other families are doing.
Student Aid is better than nothing. Not once have my parents ever offered to pay for my tuition. Yes, it would have been nice but I don't expect them to pay. I want the education, I pay for it.

To everyone saying get over it.... I will be seventeen when I start college. What kind of job can you get to pay for college when you're seventeen with no college education? See here's the thing, to pay you need a good job, and to get a good job you need college... OP: If your parents can't even afford to help pay, then that's a completely different story, but if they're rich and just don't feel like contributing at ALL, then FYL.
I call this a moment of misscommunication. When you offer to help pay for something it means you'll contribute some actual money to things. Like may be buying books. It also said that they OFFERED. She did not ASK them to. So, it's not her fault to expect that they give her money for certain things. I know when my children go to college I'll expect them to get a part time job, but I'd also HELP them pay for certain things. So, FYL for the fact your parents couldn't be clear on what they meant.
