My parents did the exact same thing, the funniest part is the reason they were "helping" was because they didn't want me to end up like them, not going to college because they didn't have financial support. . .
Too bad a community college only offers 2 year degrees, when the majority of jobs in America require AT LEAST 4 years. . . Good Skills
an associates degree counts for nothing these days. your patents screwed you over.
Your parents are awesome!
I have seen so many FML's about this lately and all from americans is it just that there seems to be a larger portion of people in that country that seem to think mummy and daddy need to support you into your 30's. You've made it out to the big world start acting like an adult!
do all american parents pay for university?? thats insane. in nz, hardly any parents do. but we do have the opportunity for student loans so thats good
alrighty first off, i think whats mainly so FML about it is 'cause her parents SAID they would help her pay, and ended up just helping her get forms to do it all her own. Secondly, HEY! stop blaming just us Americans. you make us look like whiny little brats, and not all of us are, so just chill!
At least some1 was helping you somehow...geez..appreciate..

To everyone saying get over it.... I will be seventeen when I start college. What kind of job can you get to pay for college when you're seventeen with no college education? See here's the thing, to pay you need a good job, and to get a good job you need college... OP: If your parents can't even afford to help pay, then that's a completely different story, but if they're rich and just don't feel like contributing at ALL, then FYL.
I call this a moment of misscommunication. When you offer to help pay for something it means you'll contribute some actual money to things. Like may be buying books. It also said that they OFFERED. She did not ASK them to. So, it's not her fault to expect that they give her money for certain things. I know when my children go to college I'll expect them to get a part time job, but I'd also HELP them pay for certain things. So, FYL for the fact your parents couldn't be clear on what they meant.
