Today, I felt confident after a maths exam and thought I did rather well. When discussing the exam with my class mates afterwards, they kept talking about how difficult question 10 was. I only did 9 questions. Apparently the exam paper had a backside. FML

OP here! Wow! I didn't really expect this to be posted, but cool that it did! I thought I might explain myself a little (although it does not make this less stupid). This actually occurred a few months ago on a final exam that was marked by an outside examiner. Thankfully the final grade also took another exam and an assignment into account, so I still got the final grade that I had expected (and actually completing the question is unlikely to have improved the grade). Before the exam started, we had five minutes to read through the questions, and I only got to read until question 9, so when completing the questions afterwards, I completely forgot to check the backside of the examination booklet (where question 10 was located). I know it was my own fault, but I am always really nervous - almost panick-y - when it comes to exams. I felt absolutely terrible afterwards, when I realised my mistake, but there was not much to do, as the exam was over by then. Thankfully it all turned out alright anyway. Thank you for all your feedback! I have been reading through all the comments and I appreciate what you have to say - even when you say "YDI", because I know I do. It was not very clever of me ;-)

Well at least you didn't have to take part in the hell that was question 10!

Does this remind anyone else of the pursuit of happiness?

Your friends are messing with you. The question was actually really easy.

Should try any type of benzo...they work a hell of a lot better than running or chewing gum!

Glad things turned out okay OP. We all make mistakes at times!

I read something about a study done on nervousness. When people are told to try and stay calm before a test, they still get just as nervous and do about the same on the test as they would otherwise. But when they are told to use their nerves to instead get excited and "pumped" for the test, they did much better and had less anxiety during the test. Something you could try :) it works for public speaking too.

I know that it's already too late now and glad to hear that it wasn't a big part of the grade anyway, but I just wanted to say, depending on your teachers being nice, you might have been able to get a chance to complete that final question. Like my mom always says: you lose nothing by asking! Personal story: one time I was unable to participate in a certain test. I don't remember why, but I think I knew in advance. Thankfully, my teacher is awesome and he trusts me. He let me take the test home, set my own timer and do the test, at home, the exact same exam, the day after it was done at school. He's the best :) To anyone wondering, no I didn't cheat. I took the exam just like he intended: limited time, no prior knowledge. Moral of this story: sometimes, teachers can meet you halfway, and sometimes even more.

The kind of exam the OP is talking about sounds like it is a different type, where your teacher has nothing to do with it. (Assuming Denmark's exams are roughly the same as Norway's.) Here the test is sent out from a separate sort of institution. You can sign up to retake it once later if you fail, but otherwise you're stuck with the grade you got as long as you pass. It's a nice tip for other, less final tests and probably for students in countries with a different examination system, though :-)

YES! It actually was an IB exam, haha! But thank you for all the kind and encouraging words. And yeah, when talking to my Norwegian friends, it seems our exams are quite similar. Although this is slightly different, as it was an international exam (International Baccalaureate).

The people who down-voted the person for suggesting IB are incredibly stupid. I'm in IB too Op, good luck!

Everyone makes mistakes sometimes. Don't feel too bad! :)

Rule #1 when you get a paper from a teacher, check the back #2 is put your name on it

YDI for this obvious mistake but I do feel bad because exams are so nerve-racking and make people (and myself) make silly mistakes. I'm sure you'll do fine anyway.
