Today, I ignored my phone, as my mother has dementia and calls me 15 or so times a day, thinking each time is the first. I braved horrendous rain and gale-force winds to go to work. Turns out it was work calling to tell me not to bother coming in. FML

sparkx555 tells us more.

ok, my mother lives with my brother, she is in the early stages of demetia, she's never left alone, i do everything for her, except answer the phone 15 or more times a day to answer the same questions. i do love her, more than anything, but the phone thing, between her and the nusiance sales calls, I feel a little demented myself! And I could have done with the day off, I would have spent it with her.

Buy a better phone cause that one must be a piece of shit if it does'nt tell you who's calling

It doesn't have anything to do with the phone, it has to do with the plan...

I'm sorry, but if I were you I would answer every single call I got from my mother despite her having dementia. Actually, because she has dementia. And I would have a nice talk with her and tell her I love her. 15 times a day isn't so bad.

May I ask you something? Do you know someone personal who has dementia? My grandmother-in-law has a slight form of dementia and boy, my mother-in-law becomes crazy because of it. She calls more than 15 times a day, asking the same things several times each call. You cannot have a nice talk with her, because she forgets everything you say. It's so simple to say 'I would always talk to her', 'omg you're heartless', 'ignoring her is ******-up' if you don't have a clue how much energy people with dementia take from you.

My mom has Alzheimer's and does the same thing. I never ignore her. Shame on you. Karmas a bitch.

I didn't say ignoring is good, but it is understandable. Some people here are acting like OP raped her mother with a broomstick.

In fact I do know someone. I know several people with dementia. My father works with Alzheimer and dementia patients.

Good idea, u should ALWAYS know whos calling u cause I could be important, (like ur job)

Good thing you've never dealt with it, then.

I have, actually, smartass. I'd never have ignored her.

A lot of dementia patients don't even know their children. You should feel lucky she even knows who you are op. YDI and more.

It would have if OP is driving on a mountain side with black ice.

A member of my family had dementia. It turned to Alzheimer's. Answer the calls because I hate to say it but.... It will only get worse

Certainly this is a fabrication, probably written by one of those people who you can always tell when they are lying. Their lips move.

Nice thing to do to your poor sick mother. You should be ashamed of yourself. Shes calling you because she loves you. Just because she is sick doesnt mean you should ignore her calls ecause its inconveinient for you. You deserve going all the way to work you selfish ****!

Nice to meet you Mr. ******* High and Mighty. Got any more self-righteous indignations to spout?
