Today, I realized there is nothing quite like having your mother be too hungover to open presents on Christmas morning. FML

My mother is an alcoholic who refuses help. She gets drunk and violent so I'll try not to sue her over that! thanks pal I feel so much better!!!!

For Christmas you should give her aspirin, water, Alka Seltzer, and a bucket.

Open them for her...it releases the stress you might be having with this situation...

Let her be, it's Christmas! Be thankful that you have a mother thats alive to drink. There are others that are not as fortunate. Now if it's an ongoing thing then you should intervene. Merry Christmas!

Be thankful that their mother is a violent alcoholic?

This comment makes it painfully obvious that you have never had to deal with a situation like this. Not everyone has a mother who deserves respect or one to be thankful for. Most any woman can push a baby out of their ******. Only some of them are good mothers.

Honestly I would rather have a dead mother than the violent alcoholic I have. When you're a child and worry if your mom is going to come home safe or if she gets in a fight with your dad or if your gonna eat because your mom and dad spent grocery money on booze rather than food is much worse than being lonely.

What mom really wants for Christmas is New Years Eve.

Both my mother and I were a bit seedy on Christmas morning, it was quite funny.

My mom finished the two bottles of wine I got her before 5 today. I feel your struggle.

Don't give her bottles of wine, you must have known she had an issue before now.

Thanks mom for ruining Christmas. AGAIN!

Open presents later in the day? That's what we have done the past few years. Getting up early is overrated and opening presents after dark has a nice ambience.

Girl, you crazy! 5 am time for presents! Bask in that dark ambience.

Ummm no, getting up to open presents at 5am is crazy. I don't even get up for work that early.

Open presents under the tree on Christmas Eve, then do the stockings in the morning.
