Today, I sat down to do my taxes. As I was going over my forms, I found my employer only took $1.72 out the entire year for my Federal Income Taxes. I now owe the IRS over $500 that I don't have. FML

Do you not get payslips? While it is your employers responsibility to remove taxes, how are you not checking to make sure you are being paid correctly?

This is 100% your fault. You should be checking your paystubs. Submit a new W-4 to update your tax withholding with payroll/ HR.

How could you go an entire year and NOT notice your employer was not deducting any taxes from your check? This is a huge fail on your part!

You are responsible for checking to make sure you have enough coming out in withholding, Sorry, YDI, from a former tax pro.

If he only owes $500 in taxes for an entire year he’s probably a teenager with a part time after school job making a few thousand dollars. Most teens aren’t checking pay stubs to make sure their withholdings are correct. All they care about is how much the pay check is

Contact them and set up an installment plan. I work for a CPA, and believe me, it could be WAAAYYY worse.

This might be my situation because the job program I'm in doesn't pull taxes since it's an educational stipend. But now they say it's taxable income.

I feel that. AutoZone did the same to me

You got greedy. You know how much you make and you see your check stubs. Man up

Dude. How are you like an adult. 1. You don't have $500. 2. You don't check your pay stubs. Did you think you just didn't have to pay taxes. U know how many hours you work and how much you make. Math isn't hard on your smartphone.
