Well then he just may have to cancel work that day but if its a trip that he cant cancel or reschedule then you will have to set a different date. Plain and simple

I actually wonder if maybe the dad replied that because he got pissed at receiving such big news in something so insignificant as a text message. I could easily see many people having done that, if their daughter had been that tactless. (And still have gone to the wedding, but just as a way to tell her she shouldn't give such big news this way, or they'll be taken as pointless.)

If you had been engaged for a while, just texted to let him know the specific date, than FYL. If you hadn't told him you were engaged YDI. "BTW, Dad. I'm getting married in 5 months, and here's when" by text message is pretty rude.
