Today, my boss called me to inform me that I'm being laid off. In my ensuing fit of rage, I deleted the recent project I've been working on for weeks. Pretty soon after, he called me back to let me know it was a prank. FML

You can't pull it out of the trash can from the computer? Or were you so pissed that you fully deleted it? Either way, that way a dick move on your boss' part. Sorry, op.

First off, try grabbing your workplaces' system admin or an it guy and just say you accidentally wiped your project (just highlighting html test for example i see the delete is close to the spellchecker here) and ask if they can bring it back. rarely is anything truly deleted, even hardware wipes can't do that. (a nice hit with a hammer on the other hand...) Secondly, "In my ensuing fit of rage" never do anything in an ensuing fit of rage. Nothing good ever comes from that mode. IDK why people go into it, that's like saying "after taking a bath in gasoline, I reached for a lit candle..." like what do you think will happen? the best experience of your life? You're gonna screw yourself each time. OP learned that the hard way.

Version control, f-er. Use it. And you definitely deserved it if you have nothing more to do with your frustration, just **** everything up.

do a system recovery on your computer

I've done the same thing, it was my fault for assuming so quickly BUT I also know why you don't deserve this. Obviously, with something this important, you were incredibly stressed and when being "fired" you just hit your limit. Everyone has their limit and doesn't think things completely through. Just remember, you did it before so the duration you'll get it done won't be as long. Not only that, but you can also add in/omit some things. So hopefully you are able to get right back up. Good luck, OP.

Should be in your recycle bin....problem solved
