Today, my dad thought it would be a good idea to show my 5-year-old son a documentary about Hurricane Katrina. My son is now terrified of hurricanes. We live in Utah. FML

When it was 2012 and there was all that Mayan calendar prophecy nonsense going on, my very young daughter heard kids at school talking about it and got very frightened. I told my ex about her fears and asked him to talk to her. The idiot instead showed her the disaster movie about it! She was so freaked out, I ended up making an appointment with our pastor to calm her down!

Hopefully ya both mentioned how the hurricane would lose all that power coming over the land, show him a map of where the hurricanes did the most damage (shorelines) vs in landlocked states...

Yeah I think a 5-year old is going to follow that geological analysis just fine and completely deduct his fears away.

5yr olds are smarter than you think

My four year old understood it just fine, honey. Explaining quite simply that the hurricane loses power when it hits land, and loses even more as it comes inward, alleviated his fears quite easily. didn't even need to get into detail.

I was recognized for helping those in need in that event. One of my highlights in the military.
