BlueBaronBitch tells us more.
Hey guys, OP here, really glad that this was my first FML to be published :) I guess I should fill in the plot holes here, yes the house was dark, she came through my porch door and through the dining room, which the creaking in the floor (as my dining room floor is known to be obnoxiously creaky) is what alerted me to think of an intruder. I was in my room on the second floor and there is a wall blocking my vision of the dining room once I get down, so when I got down I peeked the corner and just went at it at the human-ish form. Ended up fracturing one of her ribs, would have been worse if my boyfriend was home and he was the one doing the hitting. Family thinks I'm responsible because "I should have recognized it was my sister" but sorry if I hear someone breaking into my house I'm not going to sit down and have a nice chat and tea before deciding to do something. My family was in on it, and they're still trying to get me to pay, but I'm not budging on the fact that I was just trying to defend myself. Hope I explained it pretty well, thanks to everyone who helped get this published :)

I don't think people have a clue what the word "prank" means anymore. It's not slapping someone's ass, it's not hurting them, it's not breaking into their house...
This reminds me of "Zombieland", when Bill Murray tried to prank them and got shot. Your sister is N idiot OP.
I'm reminded of one instance where an 80-something old woman was on the receiving end of four or five moron kids playing the Knockout game. She managed to pull her .45 and blow one of their heads off. I say good riddance. The kid was no more than a common thug. Certainly, I'm preaching to the choir here, but don't prank. It's all fun and games until someone gets hurt. The following "then it's hilarious!" part is not applicable. Never has been.
When I hear about some of the bullshit pranks some people play, I'm surprised more of them don't die.
I don't know what Ohio's stance on castle laws are, but you should probably look them up, you might be held liable for her injuries.
Not sure why it says Ohio, I put my location as Connecticut o_o sorry about that
Sister wants me to pay too, she thinks because I'm the one that fractured her bone I'm the one who should pay for it. My family encouraged the prank so they stand behind what she's saying
Not your fault OP, don't give them a cent for reacting appropriately to a home invasion.
I would say take it to civil court and let a judge decide
Wow this is almost as hilarious as that one prank on YouTube where some dipshit decided to "pretend" abduct someone and murder one of his friends. Yeah... Side splittingly funny, isn't it?

Shit. If she broke into your house (or you thought she did), and you thought she was an intruder than you have the right to protect yourself. Maybe she should've thought it through on her part
"Let me prank them by pretending I'm either a thief or someone who could seriously hurt them! Nothing could possibly go wrong!" - OP's sister probably.
