BlueBaronBitch tells us more.
Hey guys, OP here, really glad that this was my first FML to be published :) I guess I should fill in the plot holes here, yes the house was dark, she came through my porch door and through the dining room, which the creaking in the floor (as my dining room floor is known to be obnoxiously creaky) is what alerted me to think of an intruder. I was in my room on the second floor and there is a wall blocking my vision of the dining room once I get down, so when I got down I peeked the corner and just went at it at the human-ish form. Ended up fracturing one of her ribs, would have been worse if my boyfriend was home and he was the one doing the hitting. Family thinks I'm responsible because "I should have recognized it was my sister" but sorry if I hear someone breaking into my house I'm not going to sit down and have a nice chat and tea before deciding to do something. My family was in on it, and they're still trying to get me to pay, but I'm not budging on the fact that I was just trying to defend myself. Hope I explained it pretty well, thanks to everyone who helped get this published :)

Wow, I believe you most definitely shouldn't have to pay, but come on, it's your sister! If you two are really close or get along well, I would still spend a day helping her out or so.
No, her sister put herself in the position by being an idiot. She she be grateful she's ******* alive.
OP already said in a follow-up that she would of course help out.
She's lucky you didn't call the police for trespassing before you went downstairs! Police don't typically have a sense of humor about pranks that take up police time and resources. Frankly, she deserved it. My family plays pranks, but this one would be considered over the line. You have no reason to pay for her stupidity.
Definitely lucky in this situation, but in an actual break in, definitely better to call the police before trying anything. You don't know how well armed an intruder could be, and like OP said, she could've been shot, with no one on the way, knowing she's in trouble
I would have done the same thing. Honestly I am just glad it was a baseball bat and. It something that could have done more permeate damage.
if she had aimed a foot or so higher her sister would be a vegetable
I too, like to pull pranks on people, making them think they're being victims of a criminal and expect everything will be perfectly fine. What could possibly go wrong right ? It's not like i'm doing something illegal as a prank.
If your choice weapon for self defence was a gun there would be no hospital bills, only funeral expenses. And it just as well could be actual robbery if your sister is secretly on drugs or some other shit that requires tons of money. So easy to say it was a prank if it didn't go as intended.
She's lucky you didn't have a gun your family didn't know about. Absolutely Not, you are NOT responsible for the medical bills for her being stupid. In my house it would have been an extremely sharp knife and she probably would have died. If someone breaks into my home where my children are, I assume they mean us harm and will prevent that.
Don't pay a dime! **** her & the rest of your family too! Time heals all wounds, not ur check book. Sorry OP that ur family seems to be trying to guilt you into paying for their fucktardation.

Shit. If she broke into your house (or you thought she did), and you thought she was an intruder than you have the right to protect yourself. Maybe she should've thought it through on her part
"Let me prank them by pretending I'm either a thief or someone who could seriously hurt them! Nothing could possibly go wrong!" - OP's sister probably.
