Today, on my last break, a lady comes up to me and asks if she could have a hug because I reminded her of her daughter that died in a car accident 3 years before. Touched, I called my mom to let her know that I loved her. Before I could tell her, she said it was probably a scam and hung up on me. FML
I agree, your life sucks 48 050
You deserved it 3 270

bumgirl tells us more.

Just to clear things up, I was wearing a smock with nothing in my pockets but a lighter and cigs, both were there afterwards. I was joking around with her when she was being rang up for gas inside. I was outside smoking when she pulled up after getting her gas and asked my name and asked permission for a hug. I hugged her for a while and she was crying into my shoulder and telling me her daughter was my age when she died, wore her hair the same way, same glasses, same hair color...( I do believe her because she looked alot like my mom..) Also, to clarify what had happened, I called my mom to tell her I loved her, but I told her what had happened first, and she was just a scam and I should be more careful and hung up before I got the chance to tell her I loved her. Yes, this happened in a city, but where I live is actually just a great big town with a lot people, very low crime rate...People are nice. Pickpockets aren't something you have worry about here. Also she was by herself, so there's no way she had a pickpocket accomplice plus we were outside!

I'm not going to lie, I teared up a bit when I read about the lady asking you for a hug. That was the sweetest thing. At least you told your mom that you loved her. That's all that matters (but her reaction was pretty crappy).

@31 "but what kind of person would actually make up a lie like that?" The kind of people who would try to scam you in the first place. Once someone is nasty enough to scam and steal, it's not much of a leap for them to be nasty enough to use coldhearted manipulation like this to do it. It does sound like a scam; old lady distracts you with the hug while an accomplice pickpockets you. But hey, I'd much rather risk getting scammed in order to get the chance of a really sweet moment that reaffirms my faith in humanity, than be cynical and risk or gain nothing.

Hey, keep mines in your pocket. the kind that blow up when there touched. when she reaches in to take it.. BOOM!

Yeah, I don't get it. What? Your mom thought your calling her was a scam, or you were telling her about the lady wanting to hug you, and your mom thought THAT was a scam, and hung up before you could say what you really wanted to say?

#22 if the mum was used to the OP showering her with love maybe she would not have been so surprised. Sounds to me like the OP felt a streak of guilt hence she phoned her mum. Think about it, if you have a crush on this guy. He calls you outta the blue one day and says he loves you. Wouldn't you think it to be a joke coz you had no indication of his feelings prior?

35 - No information supports that. she said she was touched, meening it reminded her of her mom perhaps

#35 this is just my opinion as i read it.

Well, it doesn't sound like this ended up being a scam since the OP didn't include the she or the store was robbed.... It is also not like it was guy telling you the same storry and was just a pervert and wanted to grope you. Your mom shouldn't have hung up on you like that, that was definitely rude. She could have said that it could have been a scam, but she didn't have to hang up on you like that.

To be perfectly honest, when I read the first sentence of you FML, I assumed that it would end with something like "Then I realized she had stolen my wallet".

I'd never let a random stranger touch me. Free Hugs aren't always free.
