Today, to avoid walking on a thumbtack that had fallen on the floor, my little sister took a red sharpie to the carpet and drew a circle around it, "so that way, everyone will see it." FML

Little sisters have this wonderful way of looking out for everyone else, even at the cost of the things around them.

Use some tact when you explain to her what she did wrong.

Being stern is a good rule of thumb.

Pinterest says to use white vinegar to get it out of your carpet.

You really just went to pinterest for this person?

I'd already pinned it, but I did go back to check the remedy to make sure I said the right ingredient. I'm thoughtful, yo.

She'll be successful in life, with that ability of coming up with unconventional solutions.

My sister did something like that once. We were replacing the carpet at the time so she got off the hook.

Aww sorry OP she was just trying to help

I do not understand how this is a FML for you.....are you paying for repairs to the carpet? in trouble for your sister's actions? etc?

My 9 years of expertise in carpet cleaning says for you to use acetone and a clean rag. Put some on the rag and blot it out of the carpet. Don't rub it too much or you'll bury the ink deeper into the carpet. That said, your sister is amusing!

Stupid random question, but does acetone also work for dog urine or vomit, or spilt drinks etc? And it doesn't take any colour out of the carpet?

Urine and vomit (or most other organic spills) usually require specialty cleaning by a professional. Kool-aid stains also require specialty chemicals only available to professionals. Don't believe the over the counter chemicals' claims as the vast majority of them do not work. And, for the love of God, please do not ever use Resolve of any kind. It causes major, irreparable damage. Acetone works for paint/ink cleanup but depending on the severity of damages it may also need to be flushed out by a steam cleaning machine. My advice, contact a local licensed and certified carpet cleaning company for services and questions. It'll be cheaper in the long run for you versus having to replace the carpet. Best of luck! :)
