Today, while ringing up a girl, I asked for an ID to verify her credit card. She said she forgot it but pulls out her Facebook on her phone to show me it really is hers. FML

Axelerate tells us more.

Hey it got posted! This girl was around her mid 20s. I work in a souvenir shop in Vegas and company policy states to verify credit cards with photo ID. With debit cards all they need is their PIN. Credit, all they do is sign but c'mon, anybody can sign the name if it's stolen. Right after she does this, I couldn't help but to burst out laughing. Can't anybody just go and change their name on Facebook anyways? She got a little irritated but I'm sure even she knew it has to be an actual ID. I wouldn't risk a write-up and tell her it's fine but she paid with cash and all was good!

Actually she may not have been a complete imbecile. In some cities it's almost mandatory to ask for ID and one time I forgot mine in the car and the cashier asked to see the Facebook on my phone. I was completely surprised. This happened another time since then.

it isnt the worst idea i mean i dont think a theif who stole someones card woukd go through the trouble of making a facebook too lol xD

If stores actually accepted a Facebook page as ID, and let you make purchases with a credit card as long as you had a fbook page, then hell ya people would make fake pages. I mean it's cheaper, faster and easier then a fake ID. Hell just make one profile with 1 picture and change the name when you steal a new card.

I don't understand why everyone is calling this girl an idiot. I've been at multiple stores where I haven't had an id and they've asked to see my Facebook in order to verify it

What's wrong with this? This is something I would have done. It works.

I read this wrong, I thought when she said showed her Facebook that she meant she showed a picture of her credit card on her Facebook.

if facebook didn't do it, then did she try to show you her birthmark ? sounds like birth certificate :)

I don't think it was stupid of her to at least "try to prove" she was whom she said. Crappy/ un-acceptable ID is better than nothing at all, right? The OP could still refuse to allow the transaction to go through but not from the girl doing the best she could-- in that circumstances. She could only be told "no" for trying and leave empty handed.

This is not a bad idea, (facebook part it is). Why not have DMV do a partnership with a well recognized company like apple or google, help them come up with an Icloud app that verifies and let you use your ID via phone, also your credit card maybe? I loose my shit too often. FML

It sounds like there's way too many things that could go wrong with that, honestly.

ID to use a card? Sorta defeats the point of having a pin. Not going to work on the net either.

If you was ringing her how did she pull out her phone to show you he facebook... Ringing tends to indicate you wasn't with her

I did that at my prom when I forgot my school ID. Any means necessary is my saying.
