Today, while running on the treadmill at the gym, the girl next to me slipped and went flying back against the wall. Indecisive whether to get off and help her or to just keep going, I lost my focus and footing and flew back next to her. FML

I'm sorry, but YDI. If you're waffling about whether or not to stop and help her (and thus not paying full attention to the heavy machinery you're operating), the sensible thing to do is to place your feet on either side of the treadmill's conveyor belt while you look at her. That's what the plastic edging is there for.
