Today, I decided to face one of my fears. I've never had a birthday party, out of fear that nobody would come. I sent out a mass text inviting people out for my birthday, trying to sound casual. The only replies I received were along the lines of, "Who the hell is this?" FML

You shouldn't have sent the invites by text because some people probably didn't have your number so didn't know who you were.

Good point. Or OP could have said, hey, this is so-and-so, and my birthday's coming up, blah, blah, blah. When I was in the 8th grade--and this was long before texting was an option--I remember asking some classmates I thought were friends to an early birthday party (my b-day is in July). A few said they'd come but never showed up. So I sense how devastated OP must feel
