You want conflict? I'll give you conflict!

By anonymous - This FML is from back in 2011 but it's good stuff - United States

Today, I tried to clock in at work, only to have the clock tell me I "wasn't scheduled", so I asked my boss what was going on. Turns out I was fired, and this was her way of avoiding conflict. FML

That's lame. She shouldn't be a boss if she doesn't have the balls to fire someone.

Well, by law they have to pay you for telling you your fired. And since you were going into work because they failed to tell you, they are required to pay you for at least 2 hours.

If OP did nothing wrong and got no prior warning is this not unfair dismissal? I could be wrong but if I were you OP, I'd check that it's not anyway. If it is: sue her .

Depends. Example ohio is an at will employment state. This means that someone can get fired for any reason as long as it doesn't violate state or federal law. so basically as long as the company isn't discriminating against the employee they can be fired for absolutely no reason.

tell her maybe you should tell people when you want to fire them instead of "avoiding conflict."

Maybe if they gave notice, they wouldn't have to be confronted and there wouldn't be any conflict. Also, if they scheduled you for that day and you showed up, then even if they secretly removed you later, the fact is that you showed up for your shift (because you were not notified otherwise) and should be paid the minimum amount for that. (3 hours' pay, where I live)
