Today, I got the best grade in class on my economics midterm. Rather than tell me I did a good job, my professor criticized me in front of everyone about how I was working "too hard". FML

I love Econ myself and I'm good at it lol. Don't worry about it OP, there are worse things to worry about that studying "too hard" lol.

Some people have the need to put others down. Seeing children with great potential make them think about their own failures. Don't forget the old saying "Those who can, do. Those who can't, teach". Many teachers are actually losers with a very mediocre understand of their field of study. This is especially true for fields like economics or computer science where the truly talented people are quickly harvested by large corporations. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying all teachers are idiots. There are some truly fantastic teachers out there who teach because they love it. Obviously OP's teacher is not one of them. OP never give up because someone hates your work :) People usually hate something for two reasons. Either it's really bad or it's so good that it's making them feel bad about themselves. uh, is the British way of referring to a teacher "professor"? Yea, some teachers aren't so great, but professors in college usually know what they're talking about. They have a masters or phd, so if you wanna call that unsuccessful then go ahead.
