How many miles over the mileage did you drive it? My car needs an oil change every 5000 miles (per manual) and it tells me with a pop up that I’m due for an oil change. I’ve gone 2000 miles over with no issue before a few times, so you probably needed an oil change for over a year or more for your engine to go fubar
Regardless engine oil level should be checked at least biweekly, or weekly if you prefer would depend how much you drive daily. Not every oil change interval.
I’m so used to my car with all its sensors (mine has a sensor that lets me know when oil level is low), I forget that older cars don’t have those things. You are correct, you should check oil level if you don’t change the oil frequently.
that wasn't "oil change." That was, "you didn't check your oil levels, let it get too low, and blew up your engine." All you had to do was buy a few quarts if it was low. Learn basic car maintenance. Youtube does wonders.
An oil change and a breakdown are two almost unrelated things - Unless you were running the car with low oil (an oil light would be on, on the dashboard.)… It’s unfortunate that this happened, but different auto technicians take care of an oil change and a mechanical or electrical repair - Even if they are at the same shop… It’s important to get the oil changed and other maintenance items done per your car’s recommended schedule. That can save excessive wear and tear to your car. But it does not mean you won’t ever have a problem even if you do that.
