Ex-girlfriend or ex-wife? (Or just an ex-****-buddy?) It does make a difference. But, FWIW, if bumping into an "ex" in public makes YOU uncomfortable, you've got some growing up to do.

It's not "bumping", it's sitting next to the ex AND her mother in a small space, with nowhere to go, for two hours. Don't be so harsh on him. Regardless of his level of maturity, this particular situation isn't a piece of cake if he cared about that person or if things ended badly or even at all. It's all about the connection you forge with someone, only for it to end, regardless of how deep it was - it leaves a mark, however small.
