Reasoning with a kid that might just be tired or in a bad mood is plain pointless. Especially in the middle of a super market. Your husband is an amazing dad, and you should change your attitude!

Until kids develop their If/Then logic and proper self awareness, you're actually better off training them like puppies. This is why people with well trained dogs tend to have well trained children as well. There was a study (a small one) that proved it. Toddlers don't have the mental or emotional equipment to express themselves, so they throw tantrums when things get too much for them. No amount of talking at them is going to change it *until* that child can be reasoned with. Completely ignoring the unwanted behaviour is probably more effective than pandering to it...
