Today, my mom tried to convince me to throw out my insulin shots because she read a chain email that claimed they "cause cancer". FML

"Well, Mom, not taking insulin causes death."

Does she also believe vaccines cause autism?

"Polio, typhus, smallpox and the plague are all excellent natural cancer preventatives. People who had these diseases rarely developed cancer later in life."

Not sure if you're type 1 or 2 since some type 2s do take shots. But I would get a mini fridge in my room and lock it..just in case. I would be scared for my life

As much as I can see the benefits of using the internet to find out some good shit, this is one of the reasons I loathe the digital age. I can't count how many times my friends and associates share all those infographics and inane posts. Of course, they lash out at you when you call them out for their bullshit and can't produce any evidence to support the thing they have posted, much like the original poster(s) of the articles/graphics in question. Oh, Internet.

If it's any consolation, my mum was a secretary, and shit like this was circulating long before the Internet via fax machines and photocopies. The Internet just makes it easier for the rest of us to get in on the action.

If her aim is to keep you from dying, she may not want to get rid of things that, you know...help keep that from happening.

What really worries me is whoever originally wrote that chain email. Either they're so deluded that they actually believe it, or they're evil enough to write something that could kill someone if they believe it (or in this case, kill someone else).

Came here to say that. Used to have an older friend who kept forwarding on to all her friends (including me) every time she received one of these stupid things, and after a couple of months of me saying, "Well, actually, I just checked it out on Snopes and no, this is not true," and hitting "reply all" (because she wasn't bcc'ing), she started checking Snopes out herself. Snopes is your friend against ridiculous chainmail emails. Good luck, OP.
